I can understand completely, but a handful of mushrooms don't necessarily make you insane

It’s a two year phase in to establish treatment protocols. Under doctor and trained facilitator supervision.

Give them a gram and the entire Pink Floyd catalog.

I think the insanity plea is perhaps too restrictive to fully cover the impact of mental illness.

Insanity is not knowing at the time of the crime that what you are doing is wrong, but I think sometimes people have a clouded judgement that is neither insane, nor entirely rational either.

I think it should be re-evaluated to improve the justice and penal system. I fail to see the point of lobbing anyone and everyone in goal and then turning them out on to the streets with little regard for the impact of doing that.

The high end of diminished responsibility. Even more diminished responsibility than being drunk because you've got cancer and your wife's just died.

I'd forgotten about 'diminished responsibility'.

The insanity plea isn't high end diminished responsibility, it's no responsibility at all.

Diminished responsibility doesn't necessarily bridge the gap between total responsibility and no responsibility either, given it's only applicable as a defence for murder.

It's a definition of law, indicating an accused person that is deemed to be suffering from a mental or cognitive illness relating to the mental processes of perception, memory, judgment, and reasoning, as contrasted with emotional and volitional processes, may not be at fault for his or her crimes which frees them of lawful accountability for the unlawful behaviors they allegedly or willingly engaged in.

In court, the results can be manipulated by using different doctors or procedures to make the subject look either normal or totally insane under the circumstances. Most cases are pretty obvious when it comes to serial killers as they search for victims they don't even know, however, when it comes to mob hitmen for example there are differences... based on whether the individual enjoyed his work, was free of emotions, or only performed his job with normal life at other times

Richard Kuklinski was definitely disturbed with over 200 murders with a history of being abused as a child, burning cats, feeling no emotions, having multiple personalities, and being good at killing using every creative method possible... the fact he was paid to kill and also killed a few men he hated out of revenge would classify him as criminally insane. The murders committed by professional hitmen fulfill no emotional or psychological needs on their part so some in this category may not be deemed criminally insane. Serial killers, on the other hand, are driven by fantasy to murder and powerful emotional needs focusing on lust or excitement who are basically all criminally insane. They also have an inner compulsion to kill and not related to financial gains.

Since there are so many different forms of mental illness it's hard to provide a defense and harder to prosecute in a left-leaning court. One thing for sure... if you have lots of $$$$$$$$ there's a chance you will be free and many individuals with less $$$$$$$$ who are innocent may end up in prison or if they plead down.
