My situation here also, my buddy's mom in her 90's needs to be removed... every floor except hers is COVID19 infected. Once the administration of a nursing home has a legal POA for finances it's hard to remove a patient. Why many families ask for emergency treatment at a hospital and then remove the patient themselves using any emergency protocol they can find to prevent death.

Quality of life and suffering are grave issues with many severe dementia patients. Good nursing homes strive to minimize their pain but can only do so much.

But the authorities are acting as a police state would, it may happen to you or yours I hope not
I have seen how social services have taken control of situations that should be in the public domain.

The lady in question was "detained" by the police then released when her Mother was placed back in care.
What would you suggest they do under the circumstances.? This vulnerable lady was placed in the home by her daughter so that she could be cared for as a sufferer of dementia, presumably as she was unable to care for her at home.
Sadly there are many families undergoing this heart break due to extenuating circumstances. If this had been permissible there could have been a tidal flow of people wanting the same.
Caring for dementia patients is extremely difficult and this lady may have suffered more trauma being taken from somewhere that she has been for some time and placed elsewhere.
Sometimes we have to look at the bigger picture T.C.

I am looking at the wider picture, the do-gooders want to control every aspect of our life, why shouldn't she be cared for by her own, this brings you back to the left-wing nanny state I would want to look after my own and not have them imprisoned and kept quiet with the chemical cosh. they could still be at home.
I am watching this story on the tele medical supervision is available but the nurses just don't have the time to care properly for these loved relatives.
This is my opinion and not meant to offend anyone.
Piers Morgan agrees more common sense should prevail .

with Mother's care
I understand where you are coming from T.C. but caring for dementia [ especially vascular dementia ] patients in the later stages and with a lady of 97 is a 24/7 job. The family placed her in a Nursing home presumably as they were unable to cope and allow her to receive the attention she needs.
This has nothing to do with authoritarianism it's about common sense. If they had wanted to care for her she wouldn't have been in a Nursing home. They obviously found it difficult to give her the care she needed.
However heart breaking life is we really do have to consider the individual and not our own feelings which was the case in question.

They were trying to take her home because the staff at the home did not have the time to address her needs,
but they were prevented from taking her home, not the other way, she wanted her home, but the staff looked at the small print. and decided they had the right to prevent her and keep her imprisoned.
If I had been advising them at the time, I would have adsised them to take out the power of attorny.
That would have put them on the right side of the law.
This is a tragic case of the authourities running roughshod over people's feeling.
