Please remember, people can disagree with you, speak directly to you, and hold vastly different opinions than you, but that doesn't mean they don't like you.
This may be before your time, but there was a "hippie artist", Peter Max, that influenced me greatly in my younger years. I studied his artwork intensely, obsessed over his paintings for hours upon hours. I could find new images in his paintings that were missed the other 50 times I stared at it. I incorporated his style into many of my own paintings, and at one time, I painted a black light wall mural of the universe a la Peter Max. Here is one of his paintings.
