Do you think it should still be used? Do some women get offened...by this term and try to shame a man...if he uses it? Do you think it should be changed to Gents first instead?
Consider first...is the woman a lady...or the local bike Does she talk like a lady should and act like a lady should? Is she deserving of the term "LADY"?

In some cultures - men show their gentleness by allowing women to choose or be first. In other cultures - men show their protectiveness by choosing or being first themselves.
I like men who are raised to be nice to a woman - open the door for her, take her coat, etc. It's getting less and less popular today, but - luckily - there are still some fine gentlemen to find around.

It's nice to hear that some women still enjoy that type of man...
Not only was I raised that way, it just feels right...

LeeCharming: Other terms have been used such as...Age before youth
The 'usual' term is actually "Age before beauty" LOL
My sister and I used it often as a joke...
I think there are three different questions? in your thread...
For instance...I consider myself a Lady in certain instances.. everything is 'depends' on the situation...I don't mind one little bit if a man I am dating... opens the door for me.. etc.. 'nice' .. but I have no problems with opening the door myself. eg: if we arrive at our destination, and stop the car, park, I am not going to wait in the car until he comes and opens my door I will automatically open the car door myself and hop out...

I think that in a world such as ours, whomever gets there first should open the door. Should it be the man, smile and politely thank him. Should it be the woman, open the door or look like an idiot standing there while waiting for the man.

I think it's not about first or second, it's about acting in an engaged caring manner towards one another ... each couple is free to express their caring in a way that suits them both whether it be within or outside of convention...

I think you need to blame the feminists for so many men...not wanting to show chivalry...cause many men...know the risk of being shouted at and shamed is always possible...when they treat a woman with respect and kindness
