Theres a lot of that going around... I believe it’s because many people are sick and tired of being told how to function by someone else. I may not be a Divinity scholar, but I am really, really sure that the brain cells we were all given were meant to be used...just sayin’

I think it's actually more of the "preachers" having 25000 seat super churches, living the high life with private jets, Mercedes, etc and the people that support these "preachers" are barely scraping by. Yes, I know that's not the case for all. Some are preaching monogamy while cheating on their spouse, cast out the demons while snorting cocaine, etc. It is now hypocrisy instead of the Word of God. IMO......

’Morning...good to see you today. I’m pittering away a little time before taking Skedaddle out to the country vet for his “ big” operation. ( finding a surgical vet was a challenge nearby because of Covid) so it’s about 25 miles from here. Part of me feels a little bad, nature and all, it it must be done, so here we go...wish us well. Any thoughts or wisdom about what to expect in the coming days/ weeks following this? Thanx...

P.s. I wrote a little about Canada on another thread this A.M.
Good. I think the world would be a far better place without religion.
I'm afraid that then people would simply transfer - from religion to ideology. People who need a strong organisation (structure) to belong to that gives them stability will always find something. If it's not a church, then it's a political party (for example). Religion is often not about spirituality and sometimes not even about faith. For many people it's about belonging to a group, having sets of rules and regulations for life, protecting tradition...

It's the better world that comes before irreligion. And losing the religion is the way back to the caves having grown rather bored maths. You are not stupid but your children are. Losing religion is bad for family, posterity and civilisation - but you're insured for the time being. Irreligion is for most people a life untested.

You're probably right as it's human nature to want to belong to something. Just wish they join a soccer club
Not bashing anyone's beliefs, just think religion is man made and open to the vagaries of humans and has been responsible for a hell of a lot of suffering in this world.

I disagree.
What do you mean by irreligion being a life untested ?

You may be right in what you say, but I believe people should have the free choice whether they want religion in their lives.
Some people are looking for divinity in the universe which is not quite the same as religion. But if someone want to worship at the synagogue, they should be free to do so.

A soccer club doesn't give you rules and regulations for life, doesn't give you hope or the meaning of life, doesn't help with the fear of death...
Religion is a lot of things. It's an attempt to understand and explain the nature of existence, it's a way to connect with something that is bigger than us, it gives meaning, hope, rewards proper behaviour, "conquers" death, it connects people with those of the same or similar background making a community stronger, it gives some structure and order in chaos...
Not everyone needs religion. Not everyone even needs spirituality. But a lot of people (still) do.

A big problems with religions is that some of them are based on a belief that spreading the religion is a good thing and something that God wants. That way religions become invasive. Believers of one religion try to convert believers of another. And everyone is one step away from a conflict.
