Copied from a friend : Joyous solstice greetings! Today marks the solar new year when the sun "rests" for 3 days at the nadir before beginning its revivifying ascent towards the zenith. Traditionally a festival of rebirth this year it takes on an added power and significance, presided over by the conjunction of the two mightiest planetary lords of our solar system. Saturn, Chronos, lord of cyclical time and of the festivities that demarcate and celebrate its eternal flow; the grim reaper choreographing our soul's periodic dips into embodiment from the ocean of consciousness, bestowing on us the limitations of physicality, materiality, structure and form, guiding us inexorably on our homeward journey; master of karma teaching us "as we sow so shall we reap", urging us onwards and upwards through purification, forgiveness and at-onement. And jovial giant Jupiter, fountain of joy, well-spring of creative expression, impulse of expansion, sharing, community, abundance, generosity........ Conjoined they offer a "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity for accelerated growth: mastering yet unlearned life-lessons, forgiving and letting go of the past and consciously manifesting and dreaming the future. I have read that today is the actual beginning of the Aquarian age (see below). I tend to the idea that, just as the sun edges its way slowly over the horizon each morning, on grand scale of the cosmic year (nearly 26,000 years), the transition to a new 2,000+ year long "month" under the tutelage of the water-bearer may also be a gradual one. Be that as it may, today is without doubt a significant step along the way.
AQUARIUS + Social principles, ideologies, ideals, plans and designs; collective issues, viral ideas, mass awareness, mass activity and the behaviour of crowds; + social judgmentalism and projection, tribalism and nationalism, populism; + idea-led or principle-led activity, forward planning and legislation - and social engineering; + humanitarianism, social justice, human rights - and how to deal with human wrongs; + social control and surveillance; + enquiry, philosophy and science, and dissenting ideas; + invention, innovation and new technologies, and their implications; + new applications and relevance to old technologies, structures and traditions; + administration, regulation, litigation and the social contract; + social services, pensions, benefits, 'safety nets'; + popular movements, political and secular concerns; + social polarisation (often between progressive and conservative elements). Being the polar opposite of Leo, questions of leadership, power-legitimacy, democracy, mandate and the position and rights of the individual in society are important here. How much does the individual serve society and how much does society serve the individual?
