Thazager: Here is another angle on some rudeness (just 1 type).

Some people, did not educate their kids, and when those kids grow up and don't educate their own kids, the problem magnifies. I live with such people. My brother's 2nd wife was not taught be her mother (she is youngest of 7 kids at 51), she had her own kids, and never taught them much. They are rude to people who are new to to them, myself. They talk at all hours of the night and don't care who they wake up. The 1 kid here is 18, still not yet out on his own (other 2 are older and out of house, 2nd kid is home for holidays).
Wondering why you're "judging" how your brother and sis in law handle their "home" arrangements and what they allow within the walls of their house and home and how they live ... dunno

Consolation thought ... the novelty will soon ware off and you will no longer "be new to them" ...wine

Selenite: May be he owns the place
Hi..no, he’s not the owner. This is difficult to explain, but I’ll try. Portland, Oregon isn’t like any other city. I lived there for years...many of the residents are ultra sensitive, egotistical, narcissistic. What would seem to be friendly groups and clubs are cliquish. Sarcasm is the cynical pet of the town. It seems like this bartender s attitude is tolerated...dunno I honestly don’t get it. There is a great deal of irony in this city....come on in! Be groovy and free and creative with us! Be weird! Be yourself!! (As long as we approve, of course). If I thought this way about every place, that would indicate that it might be “my” problem. But I don’t think about other places this way. The town I live in now is marvelous, the people are very, very nice, and we certainly do NOT have snotty sarcastic waiters crashing the dishes down and snarling at people. That dog don’t hunt. I am not alone in my observations-google comments on Portland and see what you find. I was so disappointed. I couldn’t have wanted to live in Portland more-and it was nice in the seventies. I know we are ultimately responsible for our own contentment, but as sure as water is wet, this town, which I once loved and embraced, sucks. What a shame...thanks for letting me steam. And ANOTHER thing...laugh love you, btw, Happy New Year, u r a doll..teddybear

In reviewing this 57 year old gentleman's profile, I noticed he mentioned that his 79 year old mother had passed away and that he is now living with his brother.

He describes his occupation as a computer programmer but then goes on to say that this is a voluntary position so in other words he is unemployed.

This would most likely be a difficult situation for all, living under the same roof, however I feel this gent has the right to describe his feelings and share his thoughts as we all do confused

Thanks for your post ... it's all in the context ... I wrongly assumed this gentleman was visiting his brother and so had the choice of removing himself from the 'goings on' he was describing ... things have a different impact when choice is removed... and so I hear you and him better now ...

Good morning (from here, anyway) thanks. Perhaps I went on a bit of a huff-and really, there ARE some very cool folks there, still. It’s just that I had such fond memories of Portland once-upon-a-time being cozy-friendly, more like a home town than a city, and now it has all changed. The “outer” neighborhoods have kept this, to a degree, but the concentrated areas close to downtown seem difficult to “navigate” both traffic and personal-wise. I sent you a note. See me in m office- ha hahug teddybear

I like some warm almond milk in my coffee or if it's black and after a big meal a dash of dry anis (Spanish) wave

A huge misnomer for for being downright rude is " I'm very straightforward " I guess there's a very thin line between being direct and being obnoxious and that line often gets blurred.
