Inthewoods: I don't know, I can't remember, it was shorter than today's phone numbers...

I remember Mom saying that they were on a party line...... some people would eavesdrop ... they all new each other, all farmers in the same area...

I did buy some Wonderful Pistachios today... ... It's not to bad outside for a walk right now, I think I'm going, I might get snow tonight, and colder tomorrow... Oh... Happy New Year C.
When I was six, we lived on a small farm in rural Portland. (Portland had the notability of being a city with rural “ areas”). Our address was “Star Route 2, #5”, and our telephone was “MI7-14”. My, how times have changed! Star Routes for Portland went out as far as townships “Timber”, and “ Elsie”, and others, some 30+ miles away! That was five decades ago...

wow wave

My grandparents didn't have a phone, or electricity or running water ... even though they were land owners ...
It just had not yet been "installed" in their area ... Don't think they ever got a phone!! ...
When mobile phones became affordable people used to have them as their home phone because still no landlines were installed till the last few years ...

Still remember our first phone number and my best friend's when we were teenagers .... and my first number when I lived in UK 40 years ago ....grin

Do ouija boards count as party lines?

Only I don't think there was any guarantee that any of my grandparents would be listening in.
