pedro27: Can I ask after the pilgrimage did you get more insight into spiritual stuff or more awareness

I'd want to go on a pilgrimage...
Insight! Yes I learned never start off to walk a rough sixty miles wearing an old pair of hiking shoes. I didn't use and didn't see anyone using walking sticks. Good idea though.
Spiritual stuff hmmm not being sarcastic but I got more spiritual stuff out of a journey through Israel and Ukraine. In israel i heard one common word everywhere I went “traditionally.”
...
This is where someone traditionally is believed believed to have done something, this is where it is traditionally believed the last supper happened. By tradition, someone was buried here. What was very revealing to me in Ukraine is that i almost went crazy immersed in a culture for three weeks but didn’t understand most things were saying.
...
I screwed up what russian language i knew too. Then about two-weeks into my journey there i came across a couple standing on a street corner speaking English! I was so rude butting in just so i could speak and communicate with someone in English.

galrads: I managed to finish the Camino Francés way thirteen years ago. Glad I do it then because I doubt I could do it now.
I haven't done anything like that.

I always visit churches, monasteries, temples of all sorts when travelling, but I've never done a pilgrimage.

Maybe I could start my own. wine

It's a great idea and something to think about. smile

Visiting churches and monasteries is a pilgrimage in itself.

Nice story Gal.. I got lost one day in Kiev myself, walked for ages trying to get back to base, then I saw the light, what a godsend it was too, I loved the Ukraine only wish I knew more of the language.. wave

I believe so, too.

I feel good everywhere, on all sacred places, no matter what religion they belong to. Maybe it's just psychological, but they always make me peaceful and calm, especially if there are no (or few) people around. smile

Me too . Wherever my destiny takes me , I always make a beeline to the local church or monastery. The cologne cathedral was an amazing spectacle.. took over 600 years to build .

galrads: Yeah I seldom got things right in Ukraine. Once in Kharkov after actually getting the money exchange thing right while checking out somewhere shopping for groceries I wanted the tell the cashier ‘thank you’ in Russian. Instead of saying ‘spacebo’ I said placenta. She grinned and said ‘yellow blue bus.”

I had a sheet camera when in Ukraine

Who is this famous woman?

Who is this infamous dude?

Guess what this speaker is talking about.
I know the Lenin, obviously, it's not there now though, don't know the others, I was there 2010, I got there during the swine flu epidemic and got the flu..sigh Had a great time though..cheers

I couldn't understand the speaker. I think he’d finished a few pints beer before speaking. His suit caught my eye.

Yep, Lenin’s statue was since removed from where it was in Freedom Square in Kharkov. I think Freedom Square is bigger than Red Square. Seemed that way to me.

The photo of the Statue of a woman is Mother Ukraine.

Mother Ukraine is a good one, I only stayed in Kiev, got lost on the metro system too such a big city, I'm sure there are some changes since then.. I'd love to visit Donetsk but I think it's still very dangerous..

Glad that it worked out for you and you had a good time traveling and catching the swine flu. Luckily, I’ve only gotten sick once while traveling overseas. Was in Bagnoli, Italy but I did not have fun.
