Multiple Telephone Calls (21)

Good morning everybody. I’m just wondering if anyone else is getting unwanted calls— solicitation, imposters saying they’re from a bank or IRS or Medicare/Social Security, or law enforcement. Of course I’m aware they’re “scams” - I’ve touched bases on this before...AND I’ve dialed the “no calls” lists made available, but the calls keep coming...(when I called an Oregon citizens’ board agency, they said the unwanted callers do not heed the “no calls” feature, whichever way you go about it, and there is absolutely nothing that can be done about it, save immediately hanging up or putting the telephone on “silent”. Here’s the problem: I have an auto-immune illness that requires me to sleep at two or three intervals throughout the day. When the telephone rings, my sleep is interrupted and I CANNOT re-capture it. Although I can turn the phone to “silent” overnight (worse case scenario is that someone died. They’ll be just as dead in the morning...) I MUST leave my phone on in the daytime for several very legitimate reasons that are uncompromising. If there are laws regarding this nuisance, why in the hell isnt something being done about it?frustrated

We have a service in the U.K called the T.P.S [ Telephone Preference Service ] and it's free to use. All you do is register your phone number and it blocks calls that are unrelated to you preventing cold calling etc.

I'm ex directory so don't usually have this problem anyway.handshake

I often get unwanted calls from energycompanies, not sure if they are all reliable.
One time I switched from company by phone, it was a disaster, they promised me to pay less, but I had to pay more.So after one year I unbinded my three years contract and then they sand me a letter that I had to pay €500.- for not staying the three years. Because I had a job that payed around unemployedment benefit at that time, I saw no other option than to return. They told me I don't had to pay the fine then. Then they recorded a new contract with me through the phone and they asked questions I only could answer with yes or no, and at the end they said I still had to pay the fine but I would get some money back afterwards. Suddenly they also asked 30% more money per month, so I called them again and they told me that the letter was a mistake, but the next month I saw they just plundered my bankaccount. So I had contact with my bank and told them this company was no longer free to withdraw money from my bankaccount. I didn't pay for 4 whole months, the incassoletters, calls and emails were almost a daily job, and after 4 months they threatened to cut me off gas and electricity. So I switched from company.
They kept sending mails and letters and even dared to call me on sunday morning, so I changed from emailadress and phonenr. all the letters they sended me I returned unopened, and after 5 years they gave up.

Now I switch every year from energycompany, getting a bonus of €150 each year, but I don't accept any phonecalls from them no more.

I have, and I recently noticed that FB was disclosing my telephone number even though I had checked ‘me only’.

I know that once one get your number they pass it around like a joint laugh. Last week I really pissed ‘someTHING’ off when I begun blocking the numbers. I received about 30 in two days, then nothing. Now I am so lonely laugh

Hi Lonelywave

Why would you even consider putting your phone number on Facebook especially as you had stated "me only" What was the point ?dunno

Some facts about FB:
- Always log off after use (account can be hacked when not in use but open.)
- two factor authentication to get a text if someone tries to change your password
- you may have to keep checking your privacy settings after their constant updates which might reset your settings.

I've been on there for ages but never had a problem. Many of my pals have been hacked but I've stayed clean so far. Any mail I get that I don't recognise in my e mail box I just junk it.handshake

My phone ( Landline ) rings all day long, my cell phone would also, but it's never turned on! ... laugh ... I'm on the no call list... rolling on the floor laughing ... it is that funny... mumbling ... I have caller ID, just in case I get a call I should answer... but that was over 10 years ago... when Mom was still alive, she's the last meaningful person to call me... blues ... laugh ... I almost think about dropping my landline, but I can't... I've had this same number for over 40 years... rolling on the floor laughing

I don't answer the calls I get, Thanks to caller ID...

If you think about it...... Call Me

I get at least one day from the " warranty department", or about my car's " extended warranty"

My car is about 10 years old and I have neither..

I think that the people making these calls basically ignore the do not call list

There is a penalty in my State if you are on the no call list and a company keeps calling

Three so far today on the land line. Automated calls, claiming to be from Amazon.
It's a bit of a bugger when you're just trying to have a quiet dump and you have to go scuttling across the landing with yer pants round yer ankles.
