This community (Coos Bay) doesn’t seem to be really keen on lending and borrowing. Personally, if I know and trust the person, I’ll extend a loan. I have been known to borrow, myself, but very seldom. (It’s not necessary right now...knock wood!*) Neighbors borrowed recently, and haven’t been able to pay back everything. They’re not the kind to cheat;times ARE difficult. I guess I’d have to say it depends on the individual. Borrowing once in awhile, in my opinion, is tolerable, but making it a habit creates a problem. Remember: usually, but not always, if someone is borrowing, they are already in too deep and repayment may not occur. It’s hard right now, though, and I have enough, plus, so have decided to be kind about it and lend to known friends if I’m able. hug hi Ali ..

I always heard, that saying, knock on wood, (and actually being able to, at that moment) meant your prediction, or wish wouldn't get fouled up... If you couldn't find a real piece of wood, you were screwed tho.. Kinda similar to yours I guess... drinking

In general, people borrow money because they're not in a position to pay it back.

Judging by my own girlfriend, it's the person who got an A in art and nothing else who borrows the most money. Not that I mind because I've been teaching her how to count, and she's been teaching me how to hold a pen.

True that—also, it’s really common for the borrower to treat you like you’re some kind of jerk when you do ask for it back... I’m not saying we should NEVER lend, but I’m being very judicial about it. Usually they can’t (easily) pay back..sigh

Hmm..that reminds me of biology and taxonomy/classification: Generally, a male pig is a boar, and a female pig a sow. But at auction, “hogs for sale” indicates both genders. Likewise, both male and female chickens are “chickens”, the male being a rooster/coq; female a hen, of course. Turkeys are cob/Tom, ducks are drakes, swans (?) and then, goose/ gander...et al...handshake
