A late winter storm has just started here, starting off as freezing rain, turning to snow with high wind. The deck right now is a glare of ice and getting thicker by the moment. This could be one of those power going out storms as ice builds up on the wires bringing them down.

I got water in reserve, kerosene heater full ready to go, lots of pot and food. I'm good wine

I take it your habitat is self- contained, or has this ability. Several friends of mine here have homes/farms that can operate independent of public services. (They even do a “test run” two days annually.) Even have an Amish washing machine you crank by hand. The real McCoy...handshake

Not self contained but I have prepared for the storm, thats pretty much standard procedure here given the climate. I have several containers of water poured off as well as the bath tub full of water for the toilet. Got a 2 burner propane cooktop as well as a small propane oven and lots of propane on hand. Heat is the big issue here when the power goes, most people have some kind of backup.

I would love to be completely independent from the grid. Its still a bit expensive to set up but the prices will come down as it becomes more normalized, maybe one day . . .

We had one similar not long ago.. It took down a huge tree, which took down my power line, which took my 200 amp breaker box off the wall... I had to buy a new breaker box, and parts.. Luckily I could install all of what I was responsible for myself, but what a nightmare... I froze my a** off for 2 weeks... moping
