Religion——Ah, Sorrry... ( Archived) (11)

Just watched the national US news. One thing I couldn’t get out of my head— The Mormon Church is planning on building more “Temples”. The question on who may enter the inner sanctums; ie, the whole Maryann, came up. The reply from one of the Grand Pooh-bahs, or whatever, was “That will depend on a certain level of devotion”. Pray tell, what in the known, sane, yet sometimes practical universe, does THAT mean???
I, for one, am NOT willing to give anyone that much leisure with my trust—- Gotta do better than that...your thoughts? handshake

Let me try to give you the simple version-
There is a quorum of elders who decide where, which country, city a temple is needed and designate the funds.
A practicing , baptized Mormon who received the patriarchal blessing may ask the Bishop for a Temple recommend.( you are Baptized in lieu of a deceased relative who did not achieve that grace). If taught doctrine, you then serve a mission and take a spouse to be married in the temple (as Adam and Eve) called sealed to each other, for eternity.

It is different in many ways from other churches,in their restrictions of certain foods, behaviours, etc.
It also has it divisions within it; about doctrine and has offshoots from main beliefs. They are known for their archives of ancestors back to the 12 tribes of Israel. They have centers to help you discover them.
And they are known for their Tabernacle choir and known for their warehouses to serve widows, children and single women. A brief time of volunteering is their offering in exchange for food, clothes and prayer garments as needed.Their stores are called Deseret.

They also have heritage centers where they can
teach their history, Hawaii has one.

I escaped the Jehovah's Witnesses forty years ago .
I was a born in .

The Mormons were our spiritual door knocking cousins ( and now in the ex community , they still are , which is nice,)

I watched a documentary about teenagers escaping the Mormons in Utah ...
That's all anyone ever needs to see to get an accurate picture.

They were nice clean cut polite young men when they knocked on our door as a kid ...
God bless them and everyone else I guess...
There is a world of hurt and suffering , and no-one has that market cornered .

Personally , I'm a believer in the great mystery , and until it is no longer a mystery we can all work towards reducing suffering . Whatever your God's name is.

Peace.

Everyone has a coming professor of age story.
Most of what I read about religion is escaping your parents rules at home.it is interesting the role drugs play in that and the prevalent compromises of basement dwellers.laugh

Because it is often politicized..
The word sovereignty is prevalent
when politics over reach our
personal boundaries.

There is a line one should respectfully
not cross.

The way I see it, is religion has lost its way. It is not supposed to be about building fancy buildings or living in a splendid palace, it is about doing for those who have less than you do. Television evangelists who live a life of luxury, while their followers live in many cases poverty.

Giving your time is the best gift you can give anyone...be it taking someone to the doctor or taking them shopping...You got it right Rohaan...its what you do for the common man..expecting nothing in return...

ALL religions are as ridiculous as each other. Anyone who believes in myths and legends to avoid the prospect of their own death should grow up. The belief in deities is just as nonsensical. Believing in a magic invisible skydaddy is a sign of immaturity and insecurity.
