Who were they? Where did they go and how/why did their "culture" die off?

Could it be because they amalgamated with the locals they dominated, and got lost in translation over time?

Who wants to be a viking?

ME ME... hehe

Well, they are on Iceland. That's the closest we got today.
The language they speak is also as close to what was spoken in scandinavia and parts of ireland/scotland 1000y ago.

Respect for women (at home) was more prominent than we might think, but roles were defined.

From what I've read in the saga's I find it a fascinating lifestyle, thou the the lootings was a shameful act.

Read any Icelandic saga's Sirenesz?
Is your first name Siren? If so you are scandinavian.

(gotta pop out but be back later)

The reason the Vikings were so successful in integrating within new lands was that they WASHED every day, which appealed to the local ladies. The rape and pillage were just stories made up by disgruntled local men pushed aside by the clean and thoughtful Vikings.
