rohaan: I hear you— in the classical sense “ ego” is definitive, not demonstrative. Many people associate the word as a negative, as in, “We don’t want to hang around with John. He’s embarrassingly egotistical..” it seemed to me that the negative connotation was being addressed, but, I’m a stickler for correctness and your comments are patent to the term. Good enough?
Yes, 'ego' and 'karma,' for that matter have negative connotations for many. We are all influenced by both, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so good.

rohaan: Current American Standard College Dictionary for “Egotistical”

“Excessively conceited or self-absorbed in oneself. Self-centered.”

I believe most readers would interpret this as undesirable...just saying...
I like this quote from James Hollis...

"The ego, our consciouse sense of who we are, is an affectively charged cluster of replicated experience. It is the central complex of consciousness whose boundaries are fluid, malleable and easily violated.
We need ego to conduct the business of conscious life, to mobilise psychic energy and direct it towards goals, to maintain a degree of self consistency and continuity so we can move from day to day, context by context. But the central project of the ego is security which, understandably, stands over against the surge of unconscious material from within, and encounters the massive onslaught of energies from without.
Given this project, this ineluctable, obsessive desire for security, the ego becomes a nevous nelly running about the parlour of life, picking up the clutter, dusting everywhere, making it even more uncomfortable to visit.
From the ego's narrow view of the world, the task is security, dominance and the cessation of conflict, however the proper role of the ego is to stand in a dialogic relationship with Self and the world."

Not a copy and paste, just a copy using my phone, thats why it took a while...grin
