If you are looking for a backing track for whatever instrument you play, just go to youtube, type in the song plus backing track. Most popular songs are there and its free. Great for practice when no one is around to jam with.

Good idea... did not know that..

Actually, when I practice, I know when I'm off time... every musician should know when they're out of beat without a metronome..
Just my opinion grin

Your 100% right. If you need one to stay on time, you don't have the ear for it. I never owned one in my life.

Having said that, a perfect digital backing track to jam with can help you tighten your timing more and keeps you in check. Locally, I am known for my (near) perfect timing but the backing tracks helped me tighten it even more. These days the only jamming I'm doing is with backing tracks lol

I hear ya... I've played a lot of solo gigs, in the past... just me... I've seen solo musicians that will use tracks of drums while performing.. just my opinion, again but..it always seems a little cheesy...
When I'm practicing a line up, I will listen to the songs over and over again (when they are cover songs), singing along with the stereo... unless I'm trying to make the song adapt to me...then, the singing will dictate the timing of the song, if it's being "screwed" to a different tempo...but yeah, I totally understand the good of a backing track...I love music...I miss playingcheers

I have never used them live, its not the same as having the full band on stage. Problem I got is that I live in a small place and there are not a lot of musicians around here who have the time to be in a band. What I been toying with lately is taking those backing tracks and instead of doing regular karaoke where you get on stage alone, I'll call it live karaoke and I'll be onstage jamming along with whoever wants to get up. Gives whoever is getting up to sing a taste of jamming at least with one other person.

The full band is the best, no argument at all. I miss it.

Back before the net, I used to play along with the song I put on my stereo.. Guitar that is.. Mostly Priest, and Motley Crue.. Can still do a reasonable facsimile of Night Moves, by Seger, on the acoustic..

I have a Technics KN2000 Keyboard that I bought way back in the 90's. I only used it for home use. I learned to play it by myself but then had a tutor to teach me the "timing" on notes etc... I took it to Spain when I moved there 15 years ago but never even played it. I've brought it back to the Uk now and now determined to start playing it again. I still have the "floppy discs" that you can use for certain songs. They provide the "backing tracks" but if not I just use the sounds on the keyboard. I've still got all my musical books which I brought back. I'm not sure if I would remember the keys now so I've sent for some stickers to help me out. My favourite song that I used to play was "Phantom of the Opera" with a disco backing lol....

You've just made my day teddybear

I'm sure you will find plenty of music from POTO on youtube to play along with.

This is a site I use off and on if I want a custom backing track, you have to pay for the song but once you bought the song, you can go back and change it and redownload it again and again.

I'm sure that I'll get used to it again. At least the display comes up with the "chord" you're playing which helps, whether its like D major or minor. It's the black notes that will flumux me as in B flat or C sharp etc. lol. I've got the stickers now to help me. It's been a long time but I'm sure I will master it again. It was always a "stress reliever" banging out on those keys peace

Its like riding a bike, may be a little rusty at first but it will come back and faster than you think. Music is the ultimate stress reliever, nothing I love more to do than to put on something bass heavy (metal, dance, whatever), wind up the volume on my pa system and make the room shake and dance. Broke a (heavy) bong once from high volume, it was sitting on the desk but the vibration from the music made it shake its way to the edge and fall off, broke a few mugs as well like it laugh

Even though I couldn't play a piano as it's totally different to me as playing a keyboard. I think that I could try and yank up playing yanky doodle dandy solo but without the bottom keys grin If you have the feel for music. I know this may seem strange but give me a musical instrument and I can suss it out but tell me to draw something and I'm bloody hopeless. I couldn't even draw a matchstick man rolling on the floor laughing Give me a mouth organ "harmonica" a wooden recorder etc. and I could suss that out in no time at all. We all have our talents in different things teddybear

I just got rid of every thing when I was in Spain. My xenix amplifier and all the other stuff. I just kept my keyboard and books. I just couldn't bring it all back to the Uk. I'm now starting out again. Lost all my recordings on SS but that's life. I had some brilliant videos's on SS but lost them all.crying
