I tell you what it *will* be famous for in the future: area of some of the most miserable combat in human history.

The Sovs (I still call them Soviets, because they've poured old wine into new bottles and still up to their old Soviet tricks, like assassinating the opposition and invading Georgia and the Ukraine) have had their eyes on the high frontier of the Arctic for some time.

Little publicized is how much Obama gave them what they wanted.

In the meantime, they've been training, equipping and deploying in deep cold environments and something only a few specialized units in the USA are ready for.

See this about the Northen Sea Route (NSR)

Russia views the NSR as an internal waterway, whereas the majority of the international community views it as an international passage. The recent escalation in Russia’s level of control over the NSR is indicative of its ambitions in the Arctic and a warning sign of Russia’s desire to monitor and control economic developments in the region.

Too pessimistic Bohemund. We can work with the Russians I think.
In name of peace and coop we must for once try to understand the Russians needs too,
not only our needs. Takes two to tango. I was scared after Krim but it proved alright,
he was not going much further. My take.

Oz,

I hope you Norwegians can hold the line against the Rooskies if the balloon goes up.

The USA will be crippled by traitors in high places, compromised intel, the effects of BioWarfare kicking in, and will have our hands full fighting the Chinese. They've got a population of 1.4 billion and can take many, many, many losses.

Think of it as the Russo-Finnish Winter War in 1940, where the Finnish ski troops (Beleya Smert - White Death) were winning for a long time, even though outnumbered, but eventually overwhelmed.

The Soviets will take whatever they can get and are willing to use force to take it.

That goes way back to the Mongols.

Nah, but they wanna be respected as equal, not the way obame treated them but how Trump did it. If they can sit at the table mr.Putin at least (more conserned about what comes after) will help make sure the chinese situation don't get out of control. See my point? I want to trust Putin.

Grandsiozzie: I want to trust Putin.
Hmmm. Are you familiar with the Soviet Troika doctrine?

It was kind of an evil version of the American Separation of Powers, Separate, Co-equal branches of government, but for the Soviets, they had three major factions, always jockeying for power. This was explained in a series of books published by alleged GRU and KGB defectors during the Cold War, such as INSIDE THE AQUARIUM.

When any one faction became too powerful, the other two would form a temporary alliance and there would be an internal coup to cut that other faction down to size.

They went onto explain that before there was the KGB there were many organizations, from the vCheka, NKVD, MGB, and so forth before the latter Cold War era KGB. They would decimate each organization, to anyone above janitor, and begin again. Just before WWII, Stalin had a major officer's purge, which claimed the lives of 53,000 of his top officers, which was disastrous for the opening days of WWII.

Currently, Putin is making close friends with the Chi-Coms. We won't have *just* the Russians to fight or *just* the Chinese to fight, we'll have both, and it is going to be bloody and dirty and we are going to lose a lot before we start to win again, if at all.

At least, that's my take.

Cow farts and lib off gassing, mayhaps. But what they're not telling you is all the subglacial volcanic activity.

Yep. Volcanos under all that there ice, leaving the base between the bottom of the ice and over the bedrock melted, hot, steamy, and slippery, like Suzy Rottencrotch on Prom Night. The glacier slides down towards the sea and the outermost edges calve (break) off, giving photo ops for the AlGorians.

Hold on, that's the Antarctic. As far as I know, there's no landmass of any size in the Arctic.
