I've always heard people reference "too much baggage"..the thing is "baggage" is a part of us all...it's part of life..if you don't have "baggage", you haven't lived very much... sometimes, in a relationship, it's nice to have someone who can help carry it...or carry each others...if it's not worth that, it's not worth nothing..

Youcannow: I don’t see a loss of parent as baggage. A trauma yes .
I don’t think anyone has gone through life without experiencing some kind of negative experience. Sometimes it can work to your advantage & you become stronger for it .

I see all emotional trauma as "life baggage" that will impact the next relationship in some way ... and yes oftentimes in a good way if it makes the person more sensitive and empathic ...
The loss of a parent (from illness) can impact someone when/if they haven't gone through a grieving process ...
