How is it by you? The weather said Wisconsin air is good today from smoke. Tomorrow worse as the winds bring it down from Canada and the west. It is unreal how much of the west has burned and still is. And Canada. And Australia. And now Turkey!wow
The rate it is going, our whole west will be devoid of forests. People losing everything. The loss of wildlife that cant escape. And then read of a woman who started another fire and someone else. What is wrong with people.
The west is a situation where the government has gone wrong, people have built in danger and droughts have made things worse. Las Vegas demands water for their pools and fountains. Farmers throw water into the air to irrigate and evaporate and draw down the Ogallala aquifer at the same time they fill the low areas that are the replenishing sinks.
I used to think fire breaks were the answer. But, when I see the flames 40 feet in the air or more, fire tornadoes and the way it jumps highways and sparks fly..I realize they are a placebo only.
How will people recover. And if they have insurance, how will the insurance companies do it all.dunno doh

Fire season is only going to get worse and worse in the coming years. Global warming is a bad thing for sure. We need to shift our focus from responding to preventing fires.

Being allowed to build fire breaks,
BEFORE a fire, and allowing
controlled burns, would go a
long way in preventing or
controlling the fires.

Controlled burns is a way. But, people have been allowed to build deep into forests now and they prevent burns. My township passed a law now that all new houses must be within so many feet of the roads. No more back woods privacy. I am back in with pines. But see a couple others way back in inside a pine plantation!!scold No way fire trucks could reach them.
Indians used to burn the prairie all the time to keep it from trees so animals they hunted liked it. Either that or lightening started fast moving fires. Then people built and built and any fire nature started was put out instantly.
Logging has made risks also. The prime log is removed and the slash left to pile up and dry to make great tinder. Humans are not fire wise. I have found smouldering camp fires left on the river. People are too lazy and dumb to put them out. Trains start fires. Vehicles start fire. Candles start fires. Bottom line..IDIOTS start most fires.
Like I said..what good are fire breaks when I see the height and force of a burning pine. Fire breaks have to be so wide, people would object. Look at how fires have jumped 6 lane interstates.wow

There are no forest fires in Greece.
It’s an illusion created because of the excessive amount of BBQS on the go .

For well over hundred years farmers in oz burnt off during the winter, they lit ground fires (in the mountains on the ridge tops) that burnt slowly reducing flammable martial like bracken that would otherwise, more often than not fuel tree top fires which cause much less devastation, slow burning fires that most small creatures are easily able t avoid.
Enter academic morons into fire services, forest management and politics straight out of universities who have very little or no practical rural like experience, here in Australia in early 1990's banned prudent winter burn off Australia wide. Since then in direct consequence town after town has burnt to the ground frustrated
in passing

A blaze at a massive Tesla battery site in Australia that started three days ago was brought under control on Monday, firefighters said.

A 13-tonne lithium battery inside a shipping container had caught fire at the site near Geelong, about an hour's drive from Australia's second city Melbourne, the Country Fire Service (CFA) said. "There was one battery pack on fire to start with, but it did spread to a second pack that was very close to it," incident controller Ian Beswicke said in a statement.

I dont know if anyone likes the BLM. They are idiots who sit in offices and tell ranchers how to ranch, block tourists from park areas, work with the DNR to regulate wildlife and have no idea of the nature they guard.
Idiots prevent fossils from removal..should be left for tourists. Anyone ever explain erosion to the BLM suits?
Before anyone gets bent,Bureau of Land Management. They regulate the forests. The citizens get ruled and big oil and loggers get what they want by paying off. And cover the earth with slash.
I heard another country now has fires. What is going on anyway? Is it the heat and droughts? Fire bugs?
We used to run the cows in the woods and river bottoms in the 40s and before. Then the conservation department said no more cause because it was ruining the river bank and stopping forests. Yeah. Well now the banks still erode from floods and you cant walk through the woods for the prickly ash, poison ivy, vines and fallen trees and branches. No small trees can get a start through it all.doh

It's a media hype! I walk a lot in the forrest and there are many remains of ancient fires. Standing trunks charred by fire. It's a natural thing. Modern Forrest cultivation has made more flammable material and dryer woods though.

Fire is natural. But, the issue they say is that people have now built in dense forest areas. Primitive man tended to build along water ways or the sea. They hunted the woods but it was more convenient to be close to a water source and fish. Game came to waters edge for hunting too.
Ancient structures more than not were built of stone or clay. Wood was too hard to cut.
Everyone wants that cabin in the woods. I see the idiots that build in sub-standard areas either due to lack of land or a wish to have a view. Mansions built on eroding cliffs fall into the sea. Homes built in ravines flood. Mansions built deep in pine forests burn.It just seem odd though that so many fires are now occurring across the globe.dunno

I question the tree thing. My farm spouts thousands of trees every summer. I am buried in woods. Lots of farms around me have woods. The bluffs across the river are covered. I yank out seedling by the gross so I can make it out my front door in the future.
Cities plant trees. Look at satellite. Tons of green.
The problem is cutting old growth forest. Or them burning off. Jungles that no longer exist.
Travel is what hurts the earth. When 911 shut down the planes, the skies cleared and pollution dropped. Shows they are major contributors. Cars in grid lock spewing carbon.
Electric cars do nothing. They plug into those coal fired plants for their electricity. Along with the factories that make them and the batteries. What will be that outcome when batteries get dumped?
The US takes a coal plant off line and China builds 6 in that week.
Every place is someone elses vacation destination. So stay home and see the sites. Dont fly somewhere or drive distances.
Stop filling wet lands that are carbon sinks. And enough with the AC. I do fine inside at 75 degrees. Even 80.
Stop paying $50-100 for jeans that look like rags and then tossing them next year for the new style. How do you think organic cotton grows. Planted by a gas guzzling tractor. Weeded by one. Picked by one. Made into yarn with electric using factories.
Until the world finds out how to make wind and solar really work, it is all fiction.sigh

I have to say that was the best rant I have ever heard and agree with all you said. To take advantage of non invasive technology such as wind solar and obviously manipulated water driven electrical free energy and lets not forget hydrogen powered clean technology which would be best for say RAILWAYS and last but the most interesting/dangerous but effective way to get electricity is a nuclear reactor but no need for a large scale fascility since mini reactors are now a reality. no major catastrophy needed anymore.

Yes, that is the reason for fires. Blame the people firefighters for smoke; the police for violence; the doctors for death; and the president for your stupidity.
