My personal experience with all thoughts that I have I do dwell on the negative unless I go motorcycling and if I go on a bike trip I have experience the elimination of the negative which is relieving. Shorter bike rides are good too. I ride almost everyday I can.motorcycle heart beating

pedro27: You spend your entire life with your thoughts, so sometimes it's hard to tell if your long-term thought patterns are unhelpful. But if you have high-functioning anxiety, chances are your brain is lying to you pretty much constantly.

That's a brilliant question Pedro and I totally agree. It can be really hard to tell sometimes if our thought patterns are on the right track or have totally fallen of the rails and playing all sorts of tricks on us.

I've wondered this same thing myself for quite a while and have come to the conclusion that every one does it to varying degrees and it peaks and troughs through bad and good times. Those who say "no way, my mind/brain doesn't lie to me, I know what I'm thinking is perfectly ok..well they're the the very one's who've been totally fooled by their own thoughts (imo). So it's not just people with anxiety etc.

When you think about it, it's pretty obvious that it's actually an integral part of who we are and an essential part as well. All part and parcel of self-preservation and self-comfort. If our brains didn't lie to us (misleading us to think that things aren't that bad/could be worse etc), especially when things turn bad then we could very easily lose all hope and the will to keep going.

Facing the truth can be an extremely difficult thing to do and for some it can be too much. So they will live their entire life in denial and fill the void/shut out the truth with all sorts of crap. One's ability to adapt and bend to what life has to throw at us is probably more of a reflection of our ability to lie to ourselves than our ability to actually handle what life has to throw at us...

It has many names from optimism, the silver lining, the promise of things to come, tomorrow....our brain has a million different ways it lies to us and when things are bad enough then we will gladly grasp at and hang on to whatever little straw of hope it can find for us.

I'm talking about mainstream here but things like bipolar disorders etc are on a whole different level.

One can become totally free

Unconditional love creates inner peaceā€¦!

That is my truth
To be loved just for who you are is an incredible feeling. Sadly far too few have ever known it

So they get a dog instead grin
