yellow jackets are notorious for how they change in nature.

Around here we have what are called "Murder Hornets". They live up to their name. The reason Hornet stings are so painful is because they sting you multiple times in rapid succession and they don't lose their stinger like a Bee. No matter how hot it is out I always wear a long sleeve shirt when going out.

Yeah same thing. The stinger isnt barbed so it doesnt pull out of the hornet. Their body is super hard and you cant crush them by swatting either------ This thread is Archived ------
Orzzz: Enough already! I walked out of front door..ow! Stung on base of neck. Then at hair line. Blasted ground hornets were nesting in a vase on my loggia. Tenant goes to cut up dead wood, he and dog stung several times, ground hornets. I go to put padlocks on my semi trailer, stung by wasp. ARGH!! Go to push poly piece under canopy carport tarp, stung on finger by ??
STOP stinging me! I saw in Canada, two guys 3 guys stung. Read comments and it seems due to hot dry summer..wasps and hornets are in a mean funk.
Now I open the door and peer out first. Walk and a fly buzzes past and I duck for cover. I am paranoid now.
But, tried home remedy. It seems to work. First wet swab of vinegar. Then same with baking soda. Then ice pack. Finger yesterday swelled to hand joint, then back down and gone by bed. So what if I smell like a pickle.
Told tenant and he checked for proof..wasps and hornets are barely pollinators. They are carnivores and hunt insects. I am NOT meat!!!

all hornets do that the murder hornets are an asian spieces not native here.

I got over it but, now am paranoid. Open door, peer around. I had to spray the vase and some again.
I dont know if ones afield came back after days. Lava hatched. Or new ones. The way I soaked the vase and weeds in it, cant believe lave survived.
I read that murder hornets are not as they appear. They are no worse than others. They got the name due to the fact that they murder bees. So they are bad because can wipe out hives. All so far have been individuals found in the west that were immediately killed.
The only good part about winter..nothing outside that wants to bite me.
