I can't say I've noticed that at all Ali, or ever heard it being said. Both sets of grandparents are equally capable of loving their grandchildren regardless.....handshake

Well... my maternal grandparents got lost in Stalin's camps. My grandfather was among lost without trace as he was mobilized on 23rd of june 1941 and never seen again. So, if you count fathers and brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles during 1914-1945, my family lost as many to the browns as to the reds.

My paternal grandmother was my best friend during my childhood. (She was considered stubborn even by the Russian standards, being with partisans and all...)

Sorry for a long post: I have blind spots, there usual comfortable people have relatives. So I can't compare.

Not from my experience..although all very different they loved their grandkids equally.
Only knew 3 of mine but they were lovely people.
Some more edgy than the others but they were all well intentioned

Ah Tulefell...I'm sorry to hear that about your Grandparentshug , that must've been so traumatic for your mother and the rest of her family as well...

I don't want to cause you any upset or grief, but if you feel like telling their story I'd be very interested to hear it. Not because I'm nosey but because the Russians suffered just as much as everyone else did in that war..and even moreso because the Russian voice is so rarely heard handshake

The same but to be fair my dad's parents were really old coming from a time when people could still be trusted. My nanna is one of the disgraceful new old people, a cradle to grave battleaxe who never had anything better to do than cause trouble.

Well... my mother was 4 years old (and the youngest of the 4 sisters) when she was left at a children's home as a child of people's enemy. (I am afraid that it grows on you and when years later you are told you weren't, it doesn't do much difference. Or so was my experience.) At the same point the WWII started for the USSR. The limited resources went more limited. The orphans and especially children of people enemies got rather less.

Well.. I rather not to continue. If you are interested, there should be some literature, books or some such.

It's history for you. It's reality for me.

If I've noticed anything here it's that the daughters grandkids are seen the most not loved the most..
Just because in alot of couples I've seen and known its the daughters side of the family that are visited most..
Even though in Ireland there's a thing about mothers and their sons ..they think they can do no wrong..
Mothers have alot to answer for mumbling
laugh

That reads wrong sorry.
I mean the daughters in a family always gravitate back to the family with their kids to visit mostly..
So the kids of daughters are seen most.
When the son marries he usually visits his wife's family most..
This isn't for every family in Ireland but alot of people I know it would be..
Even of the mothers mollycoddly their sons half to death and tell em they are the bees knees.
No wonder its hard to find one here whose head isn't up their bottom haha

They learn by example, if the grandkids see how well respected and loved their mothers mother is then they too form a close bond.....

This is starting to feel like a tongue twister
confused
