An 86-year-old man died "in a final act of love" as he attempted to rescue his disabled daughter from a canal.
Lawrence Casey dived into cold waters in Bude, Cornwall, to save his daughter Jessica after she lost control of her mobility scooter and plunged into the canal.
Although emergency crews and "selfless" passers by managed to help Jessica, who is in her 20s, from the canal, they were unable to save her father.
Jessica is recovering at her family's home in Callington after a short spell in hospital. It is unclear as yet how control of the motorised vehicle was lost.
A statement from the Casey family said: "Lawrence was devoted to the care of his disabled daughter, and his final act of love was to sacrifice his life to save hers. We extend our sincere gratitude to members of the public who also selflessly helped in the saving of her life."
