Yesterday I saw a documentary on TV about a Swedish woman who plays the Cello in the London philharmonic orchestra.
She had recently got a diagnosis of autism.
In my view she was not typical autistic! At least not as an adult.
Her behavior as a child was pretty similar to my own behavior.
Neither of us wanted to play raucous games with other children and preferred to be by our self and run away to the forest.
When I grew up, nobody ever heard about any diagnoses like ADHD, Autism and Asperbergers.
Today every other kid gets a diagnose looks like!
I think it’s a bad idea to single out children like that.
My oldest son has ADHD they say. He couldn’t sit still in class. So they gave him Amphetamine and a private teacher in the class room. Of course other children noticed. Even though the policy of the school was that no kids should be singled out and branded. It’s all BS. Unfortunately I had not much to say about it because I didn’t have custody at the time. Now I have custody and for the last year and a half he suddenly is actually studying. Not as good as other children of course, but that would be impossible due to the bad schooling in past. He is about to be 18 years old now. Any chance of higher education is lost already. He is not stupid, but our educational system does not care much about knowledge but rather conformity to the system. My self also had to deal with the system.
I wrote the test for University (högskoleprovet) just for fun in my 30:s and scored 1.8 out of maximum 2.0. That’s top 5% of students. I hadn’t studied in years, but know had the opportunity to choose whatever class I wanted. I had no interest to become a doctor, lawyer or dentist so I decided that maybe I should become an Archaeologist since I have this interest. I needed only to get some grades in English, Swedish and History. I was working full time, so I had no time to study history, but being certain I would pass any test I talked to teacher and he said “You can do the test, but never get any grade above passed no matter the result of the test are”. In English and Swedish I got MVG. That is the highest possible grade. I wrote the history test and had 98% right answers without studying at all. But I got only G (passed). I can guarantee that the other students forgot most of the knowledge after a year and would fail on a test later. I would say after that, that knowledge has no importance for your grades but teacher/pupil relations and short term memory does. All tests should be done randomly and long after studying about the subject is ceased.
I am certain that many people get mistreated by the system and cannot be as knowledgeable as they could have become with the right studying technique.
Now I feel like I need to get an evaluation myself to know what my diagnosis is!
Ps. I never became an Archaeologist since I realized that government didn’t fund anything and there were no jobs to have. I started my own business instead 1999 and been fighting socialist governments ever since.
