Are you confusing "lonely life" with being alone?Living alone is not necessarily a lonely life. I live alone. I enjoy my independence in not having to adhere to someone else's rules. I am not lonely.
A lonely life is when family and friends have abandoned you. You don't necessarily live in a cardboard box but you are destitute from the normal needs of life......food, medical care, interaction with people.

Advantage: the sincere desire to spend time with someone. Plus it's owning up to a negative, at least you're not a narcissist saying that you're definitely not lonely, you're just alone. You could become less lonely through good company. Which is something. Sometimes family and friends may not have abandoned someone who feels lonely. It could be that the family and friends don't "match" the life philosophy of the person and so they feel alone until they find a new "tribe" who does match their life philosophy...

Feeling lonely is not about not being with anyone. It's about not feeling a connection with those who live in your immediate circle. It's totally possible to enjoy a beautiful sunset by oneself. Once one feels good in ones skin.
