What evil lurks under your car? (7)

I have always driven "junkers". In fact, my 77 Cadi was bought FROM a salvage guy. The newest car I have owned is my 02 Impala. Bought from a neighbor with 112,000 on it. After several years, now at 115K. Interior is nice. Body looks pretty good except for a small dent and scrape on back from jerk in parking lot who ran away.
My guy and I went to town. Filled the gas tank. Exiting he was looking left, me right...I yelled CAR! He hit the brakes. Then proceeded and ???drag?scrape? So he pulled into the parking lot across the street and we checked. Great. Broken gas tank strap. He got it bent up and we went home.
I said not bringing it down to him so he can work on it on his outside hoist...it is cold and winter. I took to shop. About to leave with boarder and guy runs out..hold up. Come in and see. wow doh Now newer cars like to sit on the ground so what goes on under is a mystery for the most part.
Salt takes its tole. The strap broke on the underside, middle. So attachment to belly was feasible. But, both struts on front were shot. To the point bother springs broken and one end almost into pass. tire.
I looked the car over. Lots of rust, looked like nothing critical like frame. Even the rims are rust city on the back side. Estimate we talked over was maybe 800 for both struts and under 200 for straps. Other guy had already gotten those for me. The 3 of us conferred. Now, can I replace the car in the body and interior and mileage for $1000. rolling on the floor laughing One said may reach the point of feeding a dead horse. Yep..but not yet. So got it fixed. My guy will take it down in summer and do what repairs and welding like he had to do to his 96 Trans Am.
Point is...too many people think if a dash light doesnt scream help and maintenance is change oil..you need to get your vehicle on a hoist sometimes and see what evil lurks unseen.
I have worked on cars since 17. Seen lots and heard lots. Like a drive shaft dropping front first and flipping a car on interstate. Do NOT wait til you fall through the floor of your car.scold

The indicators don't work and there's no MOT on it, but she runs ok and always starts first time. 66000 miles. One missing door handle. £1100.

Neighbor long ago...stopped with car in winter. Went inside, came back out shortly. Started car.wow wow wow Got out, opened hood. Turned out a cat thought, cool, warm engine. He put it into the fan and through the radiator. From then on, his habit was to always bang on the car hood when heading into the car.
Some of my cars were like packaged chickens or turkeys...parts missing.rolling on the floor laughing
