blathin: I think you're in the nicer country now though. England is one very rough country, you wouldn't dare let your kids walk home from school or go out alone at night it's way too dangerous.... I believe France is really gone to the dogs now too.... but mostly Paris (I believe, never been so I dunno really that's just what I've been told).
Wasn't like that when I lived in England. I left in 2008...
My kids and grandchildren still live there though... the older ones are "older teenagers" now and the little one is only 5 so wouldn't walk from school on his own... sounds sad that there's been such a change...

Not sure what's going on in Paris but was in a small village south of Lyon for 2 weeks over Christmas and was very pleasant. People were nice...

rohaan: A very Happy New Year to everyone. Perhaps some of you might be able to give good insight into something: I keep reading that there are going to (soon) be alarming shortages of both grocery and household products. I’ve “googled” several choices regarding this, but they’re rather lame. Now, I keep a very healthy pantry of non-perishables, canned goods, etc…and a storage area with virtually everything one could think of for cleaning, yard work, paper items, bath, kitchen… So, I live in southwest Oregon, which is relatively self-sustaining..ranches, fair weather, clean water, etc…comments from all about projected shortages would be appreciated. Thanks..
I have noticed shortages for items made in China (power is restricted according to one supplier), lead times and prices have gone up considerably.

Locally - we are out and about less and looking at restaurants, I see them doing a lot less business and hope that not too many have to pack in. So far no restrictions or price hikes for food. Electricity is supposed to go up (we have to see the impact of that).
