I’ve been watching the Djocovic (?) story— something ELSE has to be going on. He’s irritated someone with enough power to screw him up, at least temporarily. Twice he has been “OK’d”, then detained yet again. I can’t figure it— there has to be a deep under-story to this. ( It is extremely financially beneficial for Australia to have him play, FFS!) something funky is going on…your thoughts?

Lies were caught on his documents..He lied about many things.

Truth of the matter is he should never of been allowed to gain entry from the start

The Australian Open is bigger than any one player

just found out on the morning news here— he’s out. Probably for the best, all around. I’ve long known that Australians adamantly dislike someone being treated better just because of celebrity…the rest of the world should take a hint…teddybear

Yes especially when they encourage anti-vaxxers. Which could lead to civil disorder.

Although not from Australia, Oscar Pistorius is a prime example of a well known athlete not getting special treatment after being convicted of killing his girlfriend.

He is a South African sprinter, nicknamed the "Blade Runner," who endured the amputation of both legs as an infant but still became highly active in sports. He took up running at age 16, and within a few months, he had captured gold at the 2004 Athens Paralympics. Pistorius began competing against able-bodied athletes, and in 2012, made history as the first amputee to compete in track events at the Olympics. The following year, Pistorius was arrested for killing his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp, at his home.

He shot his girlfriend. What special treatment did you expect him to get ?

Well, if I remember the core of his story, the empathy being canvassed was that he THOUGHT he was shooting an intruder. They had a fight, in the bedroom, which he admitted to. Here is what he said: he fell asleep afterward. He awoke to find her gone from the bedroom. He thought she was in the front or dining room. Hearing noises in the en suite bathroom, he believed there was an intruder. He picked up his loaded gun and immediately walked over to the bathroom, and started firing multiple times. He opened the door to find her - dead from his bullets. He said many times in court ( sadly ironic) “I was trying to protect her..”
The prosecution saw it this way: They had a terrible fight. Both were screaming and yelling. At least one neighbor heard this. She had said something disparaging concerning his disability. She locked herself in the bathroom. He got up, got the gun, and went to the door, yelling and shooting. This would have taken a few minutes, because the angles proven forensically would be him standing full height, which would have taken time because he had to put on his artificial legs. His story was/is so full of holes it’s not funny. He was tried twice, the second time it stuck.

I didn't say I thought he should get special treatment. What I did was to reiterate on what Rohaan very clearly explained in post #4 about special treatment for people of celebrity status.

In fact...... "Pistorius was not deemed eligible for parole until March 2023, but his lawyer asked South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal to take into account the more than 500 days the athlete had already served in prison after his initial conviction for manslaughter."

As far as I can tell, the responders on this thread didn’t expect Oskar to receive special treatment. We’re just discussing the trend, at least in times past, for this to happen. Nixon’s secretary was not held liable for erasing the tapes, even though her defense was lame to the max. (Watch “Rosemary’s Reach..) pertaining to Watergate. Other examples are the actors involved in Natalie Woods’ death.

BTW, I had heard this was being re-investigated. Jon Bonet Ramsey….the list goes on. But the tide is turning. This trend to cover-up is being diluted now-a-days.

All the other tennis players have to be vaccinated or have a valid medical exemption, I think we threw one of the women out last week and she just went quietly.

If we hypothetically take on board the loony crap that vaccines are a bad thing, then he would consider himself to have an unfair advantage over those he would've competed against.

He's dodged the 3 year exclusion period that ordinary people get, which explains why he hasn't made a big hissyfit speech. I'm sure we're not the only country rejecting germ farmers.

If it was last year I could understand, but with Omicron peaking in your own backyard and the vaccine powerless to stop it, we have a perfect picture of image is everything. All is vanity.

I’m just glad that here in England, we don’t have the same dictatorial policies regarding vaccinations in sport as in Australia, who by the way , gain nothing from this petty victory.
If you take professional footballers in this country for example, nearly 50% are unvaccinated & 25% of those will refuse to take a vaccine, even if it meant that they would never be allowed to continue applying their trade .

The most important thing that came out of this case was that Oscar was convinced of murder , unlike OJ Simpson, who did similar but got away Scot free.
