I rarely post anything about politics but I am livid about what Nancy Pelosi has said to our American athletes attending the Olympic games. She warned U.S. athletes not to get involved in protests while at the games so as not to aggravate the Chinese in fear of the athletes safety. They might throw the whole delegation out of the Olympic games which would be unfair to athletes who didn't participate in a protest IF there was a protest.

Did she put her foot in her mouth? There is no one from the U.S. to support our athletes. To me that is an oxy-moron. She says don't aggravate the Chinese but in my opinion our government which she is a part of is doing their own protest by not sending a representative to the games. The U.S. should have set aside their political differences with China and sent at least one person from our government to support our athletes who have worked hard for many years to get to the games.


BEIJING — On the eve of the opening of the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi made a direct warning to American athletes: do not use these Games as a venue for protest.

“I would say to our athletes, ‘You’re there to compete. Do not risk incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless,’” Pelosi said Thursday to a Congressional-Executive Commission on China. “I know there is the temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there. I respect that. But I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations, to their families.”

The United States, among several other nations, has enacted a diplomatic boycott of these Games, meaning no American government officials will attend.

Pelosi’s warning is part of a larger series of China-related advisories from the federal government. The U.S. Department of State noted in December that American citizens visiting China can be detained or deported “for sending private electronic messages critical of the government,” and “may be detained without access to U.S. consular services or information about their alleged crime.” The State Department recommended visitors avoid demonstrations and “keep a low profile.”

Then we should boycotted these Olympic games and not sent any athletes. It wouldn't be the first time.

On March 21, 1980, President Jimmy Carter announced that the United States was boycotting the Summer Olympics to be held in Moscow in response to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan on Dec. 24, 1979. The boycott was accompanied by other measures, among them a grain embargo
