I am thinking of becoming a minimalist and giving most things away except stuff related to health, money, communications, clothing, photography, books, arts, maid service, transportation, energy, and entertainment including my ps5 and cs. I think I can do it.
Feb 12, 2022 9:54 PM CST Can you declutter your home from stuff you don’t need?

Another way to do the same thing: what do you want to hand on on your death bed + whatever you need for daily living. Everything else you can sell or give away.

All the other stuff is just attachments, right?
I am looking hard at other stuff but find it difficult... unlike a friend of mine who recently sold everything he couldn't put in his Ford 450 Diesel with a firth wheel and a 30 ft camper in tow carrying three motorcycles. He lives in Key west during the Winters and travels North America in the warmer months.

I’m currently doing an about face and restructuring my “house” life. I have many nice things, but have also gone through an earth-shattering loss of many nice things, which makes it just a little harder to do. I know I’ll be successful because it’s something I really want. (When I visit a friend in a very minimalist home or apartment, I find myself envious…)

On a serious note. My grandma told me if I do not use something for a year. Get rid of it. So that's what I am doing. We do not need much, really! If to think about it
Currently, I live in a hotel after being pushed out of brother's house, where I continue to live this way. It's not hard but buying a few things which I already have (in storage) seems like a waste. I have access to the storage area but can't get into it to declutter it. Its packed too tight, and I would need a place to move it out to go thru it all. My brother and his son squeezed it all in storage. They thought they were helpful, only so that I could never get to it.

There have been survivors of catastrophes on talk shows that say losing most or all of their things was “actually a relief”. The responsibility of not wanting, or being unsure, of what to declutter, is decided. I get this…

I pack away some of my stuff and store it out of the way... Every now and then I bring out some of the stuff and store other things away. It's a way of recycling and not buying new things that I used to have but got fed up with

Ive started to do similar- i “change out” pictures from time to time, and a few smaller antiques and collectibles. I’m working on it! Would you believe, with all the neat things I have, there’s not anything I truly want to part with!

I once not so many years ago thought my house was going to burn down in a fairly local fire and so I said goodbye to all my belongings ... but then it didn't... Since then, I have whatever I want to have (and want or can spend money on) whithout guilt, knowing if I had to walk away I could. Why part with anything you don't want to or have too and not just enjoy it
Probably less likely to buy it to begin with but I resist being that tidy because all the best music was made on drugs. Not that I'm a musician. Minimalism just feels a bit fascist, a bit corporate, a bit like you'll own nothing and be happy. And maybe we will be happy.

If we can put up with some disorder then we can save personality from regimentation. We can get too far away from the 1960s with the clockwork man with the clockwork mind and clockwork heart. We are not machines.
