I wonder, if audiophile enthusiasm is mainly a domain for men or if there are also some females which celebrate and enjoy high quality audio recording and playback?
Wether in terms of professional activities or exclusively as a hobby.
Main reason why this domain is possibly dominated by men is because there are also a lot of technical questions related with the implementation of an audiophile environment.
it may can be said, that audio/music creation, recording and its reproduction, and so finally its listening, is a sort of therapy in sense of attempting to reflect the vibes of the unity of the universe from our perspective as human being.
You may find also some comments interesting where in diverse civilizations people tried to identify the logic of organized sounds resulting in music:
For example,
"at the healing centers of Asclepieion at Pergamum and Epidauros in Greece, patients underwent therapy accompanied by music."
or
"The Roman statesman, philosopher and mathematician, Boethius (480-524 A.D.) explained that the soul and the body are subject to the same laws of proportion that govern music and the cosmos itself."

I'm not an audiophile but I believe in cymatics for healing purposes and that frequencies have an impact on people's physical and emotional well being like the solfeggio frequencies.
My sensitivity to music lays in that I see the colour of sounds particularly when someone produces music from their soul if I close my eyes I see a show of colours swirling and changing with the musical notes. Same when someone has a beautiful voice or if I listen to gongs or Tbetan singing bowls.

I used to have a similar response to Led Zeppelin.

Selenite: No longer?
Not in the same way. I suppose I eventually realised that some of the qualities we attribute to things are not properties of the things themselves, but something we impose on them ourselves.

I'm sure there are. But another reason could be that music is more the man's secret way to be emotional. He's much more likely to reminisce with himself, by himself. I may not know much about art, but I always thought art comes from not saying it. It comes from repression in a sense. It has to sound good because it won't be heard otherwise, or be attacked if it was.

Art exists to get around the censor. I strongly associate art with your own tears going unheard. And I associate art as taking a crap on the floor with medals for tears.

The 1960s music was good because they were musicians who won and lost fights. They had a villain and a boundary to push against. Their songs were still better when the album had a weird hiss on.
Anyway I think man's greater love for music is his difficulty expressing emotion in an obvious way.
I have said " why this domain is possibly dominated "
so its an assumption as underlined with `possibly´.
it is not absolute.
maybe I should have put it more in sense of a question.
so, thanks for pointing out. I will correct it more to what are the potential reasons, why it seems mainly a domain of men ... if at all.
so where are the audiophile females then??
Ah ok, no worries, I must've misread you then....sorry :).
Deterred from being technical from birth. tey're handed dumb dolls and told to play with them...and when they show an interest in what makes the dumb doll do something they're told not to break it..
The boys however are handed all the tools that enable to them to move towards the STEM subjects....
Women are just as technical as men, if not even more so, it's just thatthey're just not encouraged and when they do go into a technical field many feel intimidated by working in an all male environment....it's not as simple as that but that's the bones of it
Thanks gyp. U know what I mean. I wish I had your control. Or should I say balance. NR.. Dolby... hehe
By the way I have a Class A Adyton made in Norway I'm pretty proud of. Only it needs a good pre-amp. Had an amazing one from 1986 an Audio Innovations 800 made in England. Top combination.
