Bit of a larf , build a city on Mars , don't hold back build a dozen . Makes poor economic sense , their risk stated to earth is the Sun , what do they think shines on Mars .

Eventually, being positive, we should colonize every inhabitable uninhabited planet in the galaxy in 1000 years. Mars colonization is just a start for experimentation doing so..
Time didn't begin it's part of the Universe. Everything on the circle time that has a "beginning" must have and "end," however every minute you've ever lived is still there somewhere (that space-time). Time is real but our experience of it is an illusion. So don't worry about the future in that sense. You live forever. Just worry about quality of life. Moreso, now that you know it doesn't go away.
I find the thought of people invading other planets saddening, given it's clear we're not mature enough to be trusted with the gem of an orb we've been privileged to be the guardians of.
I wouldn't wish a painful, or distressing end on any living creature, but given the choice between invading the universe in an ecolgical time bomb and returning to a more simplistic way of life here on Earth, I'd take the 12 years of trying to be a better human being.
I'm not afraid to no longer exist; my ego really isn't that big.
I'm guessing there's more to Elon Musk's personal fantasy than is shown in the clip you cited, as the time frame isn't explained. Given here in the UK the entire island shuts down for 48 hours if we have three flakes of snow, I find it hard to believe we'd manage to keep on schedule (and budget) for an apocalypse/exodus within 12 years.

No one said invade. I doubt there would any hostility or harmful intent. The space travelers would bear gifts instead, but i doubt they will find civilizations in galaxies far far away like we saw in star wars films.

Any intrusion which creates change is an invasion.
It doesn't have to be a violation of other life in the present to impact upon future potential.
I don't think we intended to trash the planet Earth, but we have done a fairly good job of that all the same.
It's odd that, as a species, we have a culture of expecting that we plan for our own future, that we have pension funds and ther resources for our old age, but we also plan to bleed other planets dry n the same way we've broken our own.
I am not sad whatsoever. Neither am I worried. The world has never been problem-free. The trick is to develop personal enthusiasm, and strive to live simply. Several high school teachers of mine were firm in saying, “Life is what you make it”. The world’s troubles surround the bummed-out guy at the pub. They also surround the smiling, relaxed happy-go-lucky fellow. The troubles are the same. The outlook of the individual is the key.

What's the defintion of madness...?
Well, what in this galaxy convinces you that other species are any different or better or worse than our species.

I'm a "whiner" or should I say "winer" "winks" lol.
I do believe that there are other lives out there on other Planets. Maybe they are in the same situation as we are on earth? Will we ever know? It could take however amount of years to find out
There are a lot of species other than humans on this planet.
We don't treat our pet dogs like a cat playing with a mouse because it would be considered inhumane.
Talking of ethics and humanity, Elon Musk's fantasy of becoming a multi-planet species probably doesn't include considering the welfare of the most vulnerable people on the planet Earth. The elderly, sick and disabled won't be doing any strenuous space travel, and neither will the poor.
That would be an interesting skew on natural selection, this 'master race' that gets to populate the galaxy and beyond.
The majority would be subject to the Earth's extinction event in his fantasy. Maybe we'll all be gassed when the permafrost melts; maybe creating the means to get the master race off the planet will help global warming along.
Tell me again what the definition of madness, and humanty, is.

We might end up looking like cyborgs but it's the pro-life option. Go forth and multiply.
There are two human things we can do and that's one of them. The other is war. A return to simplicity by blowing civilisation to bits. Even the managed return to living in a hole in the ground will result in war. People will find that managed return to the dirt ludicrously anti-human and war will break out. The same result by another way.

Why do you always thinking terms of domination in this thread. An extinction event for us is on the horizon and it appear as if you are saying when you car is sitting on a railroad track with a train coming 'stay where you are, don"t move"

our species would have a better chances for surviving eons into the future if we spread out and populate uninhabited planets. When the healthy and sick and rich and poor humans die when one planet is completely blown up or destroyed by other means, well, then the healthy and sick and rich and poor on other planets survive.

Nothing master about it.

We each have our own madness, some of us lucid and just show it better in cs threads n blogs.

We can see the beginning of how a managed return to the dirt will result in war through the pandemic and the great reset. Imagine doing what's been done since 2020 times 10, there would be a bloodbath and establishment that falls very quickly indeed.
And actually civilisation on earth is so big that world war 3 salts the earth for everyone. We are connected to civilisation for better or worse.
And my honest opinion is a simple life lies in going forwards, not backwards. An intergalactic empire where Hamish people have their own planet. An extraterrestrial world that levels off at an 18th century means of production. And then a world for woke where genetically engineered telepathy makes privacy redundant and all differences melt away through the window into each and every brain.

It might sound strange to us now but Musk and neuralink? These will be the ordinary humans, these will be the humans that still die and believe in the afterlife etc. They might look like universal soldier but they are essentially human.
It's the woke that will go deeply into genetics. They might look more human but they are not. Far from it. The science itself has come into change human nature actually doctor what is under the hood. They don't die per se but get uploaded into a database they call Gaia.
And I reckon that Mars, the red planet, will capture imagination to start with but terraforming Mars will eventually become the project of old socialists. It never did make economic sense but it was a spur of the will for a time, a belief that progress is possible.
