The Putin lovers like Carlson have actually give Putin the help he needed to turn the GOP against any sensible response to the expansion of Russian forces. All Living former presidents have condemned Puting
- except the last president - who praised Putin for his 'brilliant' move into the independent regions of Ukraine.
Biden has been building a coalition of countries - which now number 31 - mostly NATO pact members - who are solidly unified in their support of Ukraine and the independent nations formally of the Soviet Union.
We have been down this road before. How quickly Republicans have forgotten that Ronald Reagan was firmly steadfast in his hatred for the Russian regime and warned of the Russian Bear moving against our friends in Europe. Let's remember the lessons of WW2 which saw German military forces taking Poland in 1938, after minor moves in taking parts of Czechoslovakia. NATO is and will be the only resistance to Putin's moves toward rebuilding the old Soviet regime.
Who is next for Putin? As Ukrainians leave for Poland and Romania - will Putin then push to take countries like Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia? Will he be satisfied with Donetsk and Luhansk? What should the role of the rest of the world be to prevent another 'Poland 1938'?
The USA can not stand idly by - Biden has been right in building a partnership of unified democratic nations objecting with economic sanctions and financial blocks on the Oligarchs. It will not be enough to stop the Russian expansion. Americans have an obligation to support democracy under attack where ever that is. At the moment - democracy is under attack here at home as Republican support for Putin remains strong - which is puzzling. If Democrats are the only sensible adults defending democracy when it is attacked - what good are the Republicans!?
