I think beauty is no longer in fashion...
As natural beauty is losing over the fake...
We know how easy it is today to change one's features...
Even the so called most beautiful woman is a product of the plastic surgery...

That mean that women, who meet the current beauty standards, do indeed get a special treatment in certain circles. Or they hope for it.

They don't though change DNA, yet. And one of those women might one day give birth to a child, who'd mirror the mother's natural features. Surprise for a husband :)

Yes but in China a father could take such a mother to court and, this is the best bit, win. Although perhaps husband should have known that his wife was weirdly low maintenance for somebody who looks that good. He should have known that his wife was born ugly by how happy he was.

It's not that men do not realise an enhancement has been performed but I guess they don't put any thought in the "nature" aspect of the reproduction...laugh

Well, indeed... my impression is that their only thought is about the process that leads to reproduction, not the consequences of it :)

Friskyone: Do you think people who are above average looking get better opportunities in life than those who are less attractive?

Why or why not?
Six of one, half a dozen of the other.

Sometimes attractive people are put down, or bullied by others out of resentment.

Sometimes attractive people are abused by their partners to 'keep' them.

Sometimes attractive people are perceived as unapproachable, the stuff of 'out of my league' even as someone to say hello to. I think I've seen agonising loneliness in particularly attractive youngsters.

I think attractive people are often objectified and not always treated as a human being. It can erode self-confidence and become a downward spiral.

I'd say attractiveness and opportunity is more complex with many nurtured/learned factors playing a role. I suspect there's a happy medium where those many factors come together.

You may be more qualified to think straight here... rohaan than me right now,
but is it not a slippery slope to mix charm into the 'looks matter/less so'
descussion?

There can f.ist be very good looking but relatively charmless folks around.
Based on that ... what means "if you got it" in this instance..
And what matters more: looks or charm?
I'd like a good mix, but hey... if I have to give up one I'd give up some of the looks for some more charm I think. These days looks seem to triumph charm anyway.

It helps to just be cognitive about what the adage means, rather than parse it too meticulously.

Sure roh, but I would claim that
the uglier you are the more charming you need to be, to compensate.
Handsome needs to do somewhat less handsome stuff than the less handsome.

Friskyone: Do you think people who are above average looking get better opportunities in life than those who are less attractive?

yes they do. Look at talkshow-hosts etc. or any guy who has a tv-show. All good looking.
Do you think popmusicians got much attention when they look ugly?

Or how about an ugly person and a very attractive person both sollicitate for the same job, both have the same scholing, the same skills, who do you think the boss will take?

How about people who have to visit or speak with new clients? I don't think the boss will like to send someone to them who is fat, have pimples everywhere etc.

So discrimination, it is not only about being white or black, it's all around us. Most women also won't have a relationship with an ugly looking guy and vice versa. So also in love there is discrimination.

How about a gifted guy in school who stutters, is clumsy with his hands and or gymnastics, the other kids will bully him, also some kind of discrimination.

Most times. But sometimes you could do without it as it works like having a higher minimum wage. Say something awful happens to you then the bottom three rungs of the ladder don't exist - which is a bad thing. Maybe you've just dragged yourself out of a car wreck and you need to rehabilitate rather then people to say, yes, that's the managing director of the company.
