I wonder how much unhappiness comes from two people not knowing what each other are thinking and feeling. Or, perhaps worse, thinking they do know and being wrong.

Could be the opposite: they both live in the world of their own dreams and are happy.
Unhappiness starts when they try to drag each other over to their dreamworld.

I think one must go almost a life time to know what a partner is thinking.
Acceptance and knowing to care for someone you do not need to know them inside out, we all have private thoughts or we would be like robots

I certainly don't want to know everything she is thinking
F.instence when she is thinking "oh what a hopeless loser, or is he an azzhole?.." but say "hunn are you sure there is not a more smooth way to approach that problem?" I'd take that instead haha

I don't imagine a whole lot of unhappiness comes from not knowing what someone else is thinking. Thoughts are just that thoughts. Now here is the tricky part, when someone thinks they know what another person is thinking you can be in for a bumpy ride. I am not clairvoyant. If you are thinking you would like me to mow the yard then you need to verbalize it. Otherwise how would I know?

I'm not the least bit interested what you are thinking. Happy? you bet.

Is it really causing unhappiness when two people can't read the other's mind and how each are feeling?
I don't assume one way or the other and IF I was so curious/unhappy, I would approach the person and would hope they would do the same. Cards on the table, no nonsense. Grab the bull by the horns and settle up. What's so hard about that?

It also crosses my mind how, in the absence of information, people need to fill that void with something (anything), rather than remain in a state of not knowing.

Any number of situations and circumstances could have been in my mind when I made the original post. And your comment above isn't applicable to what was actually going through it. That hasn't actually caused any unhappiness in this instance, but it sort of illustrates what I mean.

I may be wrong, but it sounds to me you are describing yourself because you obviously are speaking a second time about a "state of not knowing" and "absence of information".
It seems to me, one of two things here. YOU may be referring to yourself and someone else or you're a private investigator.
If you are so concerned, why not be proactive and get to the bottom of it.
And if I am wrong, maybe you need to leave it alone "rather than remain in a state of not knowing?

Just sayin'
I can't really complain about your just saying what crosses you mind, can I, Frisky? Given the thread title.
