May all refuges and immigrants be welcomed equally whatever their country of origin.
I very much doubt anyone wants to be a refugee of any description..we shouldn't be welcoming refugees with open arms. Not because I'm against them. It's because I'm against the life long damage that's been done to these poor people...and their homes, countries, way of life etc...

Refugees are a symptom of the problem. Their homes and countries being raized to the ground so they have no chioice but to leave...stop the wars, stop the bombing and stop the interefering in countries that we have no business being in..and we won't have a refugee problem ..

it's truly shocking what's been done to millions around the world in the name of "humanitarian action"...truly shocking...

And then people wonder why some leaders dont want the west near them and the west then labels them as dicators...

Gadaffi warned this would happen if the west was allowed in and he was 100% correct...

truheart1941: After listening to the new budget . Like many Brits I will have to tighten my belt. Live on bread water.........in the dark........every thing that is. Taxable. Will go up. No doubt. The Syrian. Men who arrive in. This country. A hundred a week by boat. Will suffer too. Instead of being housed. In five. Star. Hotels. Will now. Have to live in four star hotels. And a reduction of a pound a week. From their four hundred pound a week. Allowences...the government should be ashamed of them selves treating our guests. In this way....... ......?....
I don’t “get” where some advertising and current news announcements are coming from: for example, housing is a humongous issue in Oregon, even with rent control, HUD ( our version of council flats), and increase ceilings. However, the news lately, specifically the town of Eugene, has been reporting that their city is underwriting several very nice apartment communities that “will be exponentially affordable for even the lowest wage earners or retirees”. I checked it out. Their “lowest” monthly rent was $1850.00. That is NOT low, nor is it affordable. ( it exceeds what many people even have, total…). Where do these people get their information? Automobile loans are unreachable for many, groceries are actually sky-high right now, as is gasoline, linens, and better clothes. Even resale shops are expensive, and dollar tree has gone up 25%, a very high singular raise for anything. My rent just increased 10%, the max they can ask. It still leaves me in better shape than many, but next year another 10% will put me close to the affordability edge. Geeze— what are folks to do? And get this— I’m one of the “haves”. If it’s tough for us, then it’s really hard for anyone making less.handshake

Talking out of your backside there!!

My grandparents and parents lived during a civil war and dictatorship in Spain and know people who murdered or died of hunger and/sickness. My grandfather used to grow vegetables and feed many of the kids living in their streets to save them from hunger and ill-health. My other grandfather risked his own life by throwing ropes in to pits where had been pushed and set alight by Franco's "soldiers". And so it went till the 60's when ...,

We were a family of Spanish emigrants in France. Yes we went without many times, living in harsh poor conditions till my father "made good" working building homes for rich(er) people for quite a few years.

When I was at Uni I wanted to improve my English so I went to study inn England where I met the father of my children. I lived there till they were grown up and independent even though I was divorced by then.
I no longer live in England because it's not my country and I prefer to be living in my ancestral country where my roots and nationality is.

Hope this serves to demonstrate that you're in no position to lecture me or my family about war, poverty, sharing, immigration or ethics.

I have to amend my post. St. Vincent de Paul is developing a 50+ units that will be about $700.00 a unit. However, qualifying will not be easy, and they’ll fill up. 50 units isn’t even a tiny drop in the bucket of what’s needed/ so, essentially my first post IS accurate, with only a teeny -tiny itty bitty digress.

I think we should make a difference between refugee and immigrant...
Refugees have no choice and immigrants make a choice for a better life...
And probably most of us are coming from families of immigrants...
It isn't anything new...
But displacing people isn't always the best solution for them...
War refugees should stay as close as possible to their country and have the chance to rebuild it afterwards...
It might not seem fair to some but it is the right thing to do...
This is what our grandparents did...

I would even say there is a difference between refugee, immigrant and political asylum seeker/political exile... the latter would be arrested and executed when caught by the government of their own country for having opposing political views...
