I had a dream about a week ago that affected my emotional state for the entire day following it. I forgot the details of the dream quite soon after waking, but I was left with the feelings that I would have experienced had the events in the dream really happened. It made me wonder if this was an incidental side effect of dreaming, or the purpose of dreaming.

I have a vague recollection of a quote that goes something along the lines of, “an unconsidered dream is like an unopened letter (to yourself)”. It might have been Carl Jung, I can’t remember. I spent most of the day considering my dream, but I couldn’t really work out what I was trying to tell myself. That worries me a bit, because I think it might have been important.

I loathe when that happens....its somewhat irrational to keep the feelings the day after but you can't help it all the same.
I've often had a dream , bad one, where I knew I was dreaming and could feel myself trying to move and wake up and couldn't, like I was paralysed...this was happening during a particular horrible time of life that's long past it I won't forget the feeling of it...terrible.

On another note but on topic apparently if you dream of getting married and when you get to the top of the aisle and you can't see your groom or brides face then it means you havnt as yet met your true love.

During school I had a recurring dream of going to an exam hall or getting on the bus naked...alway naked....freaked me out

If I were you I would just sleep for the following day..its the only way to try get rid of the feelings...other wise your in for miserable days....lol sorry

You could be ignoring something massively important or have you been eating a lot of cheese?

It wasn't something I was ignoring; very much the opposite, it was to do with a matter that is never far from my mind, but don't know what to do about. It's something I probably can't do anything about, actually. I'm pretty sure cheese wasn't at the bottom of it. smile

You could try asking yourself, just before you go to sleep, to clarify the meaning of your dream in a new dream while you sleep that night ...

I think it might have been a wish fulfilment dream, and the subsequent mood I was left in due to the absence of the fulfilment in reality. sigh

You might want to investigate “Lucid Dreaming”. There are books about it, and from what I’ve read so far, one can bring about a dream he would like…hint, hint. (I am REALLY looking into this…wink ) seriously, it exists. Watch out, cowboys, wrestlers, and Jack-hammer operators!

I have investigated it. Well I say investigated, but had a brief bash at it would be a better description. I didn't bother with the more troublesome techniques, and that may be why I didn't have any success. dunno

Ah yeh dreams that have an effect on you emotionally are bound to stay with you...that's only natural I suppose... but as for the importants or relevance of dreams then personally I don't think they mean anything,. Well I hope they don't because, even though I very very rarely dream, I've had some really weird ones that involved dates of things happening etc...creeeepy uh oh conversing
