I'm retired. Not because of financial comfort, just that I have possible options to make it work.
I do have a small business and pick and choose what works for me, energy and time wise.
At this time, I'm considering to retire in my birth country not as permanent but every six months. Summer here in the US and winter in the tropics. My family house is still good. I can improve it and make it comfortable.
What about you? Would you have a preference if you were to retire?
Note: I have so many friends on here (I personally met some of you) who're already living as retiree in some countries other than where they are national or citizen.
It'd be interesting if some would share their opinions.
I’m hoping to buy my own private island in the not too distant future , where I will invite all my CS friends for a big get together. All expenses paid.

In the meantime, share which island would that be? Like Aristotle Onassis Scorpio island perhaps?

I was thinking more about buying Richard Branson’s private island . You can help organise the sale but you’re not welcome as only virgins are allowed to attend , as the name suggests .

I am looking for a house in either Italy, Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia or Hungary. This is because the government will confiscate my pension if I move and register outside EU. It's fascism really.

Winter in Portugal because there are no mosquitoes lol...and the weather is lovely, summer in Ireland right beside the Atlantic and mountains because there's no where in the world as beautiful as the west coast of Ireland on a lovely summer's day... . a few months in Iceland, Czech republic or Austria.. and that's me sorted

If you have a private pension you can take it to whatever country you want....because it's not the tax payers money you'd be taking...
If you'll be reliant on a state pension then of course you can't get your government to fund your living in a different country...

Whaaaat? That's ridiculous, well good luck Jaavisst.

I keep putting this off cause I'll forget something. One of my favorite USAF tours was Taiwan. It was the only place in the world that the GI seemed more important to the people than the American tourist. I lived off-base in Thailand. The Baht was then 20 to the dollar but the problem was that things like air conditioning were many times more expensive in terms of dollars (I think it's now 40 Baht to the dollar and I expect that air conditioning cost even more in dollars). This affects my evaluation of moving to Taiwan. I spent three years in England. Married one. Don't know why because I already knew it wasn't the place was built up to be. Actually it's a lot like the idiocy on our east coast north of Florida.

It doesn't work like that here. All pension money are put in stock funds. You get state pension according to how much you have paid during your life as a worker. You don't pay tax until you take money out.
All private pensions are also in stock funds. At the moment all funds who had investments in Russia is frozen. Even if only 1%. They are untouchable until USA lift sanctions. Even government state pensions had invested in Russia. But since there are double standards here they brake the sanctions and pay out anyway.
The state has managed my money since the beginning. For them to steal it is actually the same as if a bank would say that they will confiscate your savings account if you move abroad! That is pure criminal behavior. If it wasn't for that I could buy a house in other countries as well. It's just a hassle to have to do tax forms and have to go to Sweden all the time.

I know many countries have this ban on living out of EU and receiving your pension. Which I find highly unfair as someone has been contributing toward his social insurance as a tax payer and then doesn't have any right over it. State pension if you worked 10 years must be way different than state pension if you worked 35... The pensioner WAS a tax payer, let's not forget it and talk about them as some kind of a sponger...
I do not plan to retire. I wish I can stay active and work for as long as possible as it will keep me in the right state of mind and spirit. Take longer rest time for sure but retire, no, it will kill me faster... I'd like to travel now and then but always come back where I belong...
