The formula thing is making me wonder. When I was a baby, I was a Pet baby. Mom mixed canned milk, Karo syrup and liquid vitamins up for my bottle. We all pretty much were. My mom was not able to handle cows milk when she was a baby so her dad had to find a woman with goats and she thrived on goats milk. Around the world, babies live on mothers milk, mare's milk, goat, sheep, cow.... Now today every baby has to drink some formula made in a factory. And more and more can't handle mothers, cows, goat or any milk. What has changed. Why are babies now so prone to issues consuming anything that is not some chemical made up formula? I am not aware in my life knowing ANY baby that had such issues. And as soon as possible, moved to Pablum and Farina. Grew up eating whatever was put on our plates. No allergies, no food issues. The weakening of our population!
My mother was given drugs throughout her labor...and, knocked out in the delivery room with all 3 of her births....The doctor used forceps with each of her deliveries too.
When I became pregnant with my first....she did not even know about what happened to the afterbirth..she thought the cord went back up into her..kinda like those vacuum cleaner cords...
The doctor tried to give gas with my first...I refused it...I also refused to have my legs and arms tied down while giving birth. He relented and let me give birth naturally....
My husband was not allowed in the delivery room with our first child..But, he did get to see the birth of our second and third child....No drugs..the lamaze breathing....
I have seen all 3 of my grandchildren come into the world....My oldest daughter..no drugs.. My youngest opted for an epidural for both her births...
Breastfeeding was looked down on in the 50s and 60s...Now, we tend to shame those who do not want to breastfeed..
As for homemade formula....It has been proven to cause very policy babies..and digestive problems...
Times change..and thankfully..not all women or men think we are weak.
We live in a chemical soup. No doubt as Jac said, modern life is playing a part of what is going on.
Not all that is modern is bad though. You go to any older grave yard and before vaccines became common, you will see a lot of children. Survival rate and life expectancy before modern medicine was a lot lower than it is now.
We don't know enough about the long term effects of a lot of what is around us and the only way to learn is with time. We need to redouble our studies into this stuff and maybe ease of the chemicals a bit.

Breast milk is a natural laxative, so it's rare for breastfed babes to be constipated. Breastfed babies do not need water until they start eating solids.
Breast milk has everythng the baby needs for the first approximately 6 months, but very often, not even midwives know enough to solve problems because breastfeeding became rare post 1950's.
The link above highlights some difficulties and solutions, but doesn't address scarcity of adult food, stress, exhaustion, or other factors affecting the mother.
My intention is not to guilt trip about bottle feeding, but to dispel breastfeeding myths. Formula milk is harder to digest so it frequently causes constipation, but aids sleeping through the night. Modern schedules can make it very difficult to breastfeed.

Money. It became a huge Industry. When I grew up it was only mother's milk and later cream of wheat, rice, buckwheat. And then whatever there were to eat. Everyone I remember where eating anything with no concerns about allergies or whatever. All my three were breastfed and to this moment with no allergic problems or body system issues (Thanks God!) Even thought My third child was born in Canada, And doctor was insisting on feeding him with baby formulas. I refused. She was surprised. And it was the last time I went to see a doctor in Canada.
Good topic Orzzz because our children, grandchildren are a future of the Planet.
I've just watched the film Dark Waters. It's about PFOA contamination from the production of Teflon. DuPont knew in the 70's that PFOA had leached into the water system via waste dumping and that the chemical was causing terminal illnesses and birth defects among it's workforce. However, they continued production because it was so obscenely profitable.
DuPont finally settled 3,535 claims for $6,707M in 2017, but denied any wrongdoing.
It's estimated that virtually every living creature is contaminated with PFOA, including 99% of humans. There are another 600+ related 'forever chemicals' nearly all of which are unregulated.
I'm guessing that's just the tip of the iceberg with respect to chemical contamination.
It has something to do with the urban sterile; the unloved and the unnatural in its cubicle as world. But are they really more allergic or are they just more likely to complain? Both is the answer to that. There is an historic march to precious that grows out of civilization, the more you have of that the more allergy there is going to be. The more civilised, the more allergy if you like.
And I guess what the urban sterile does primarily, in its lack of exposure to nature, is equip/adapt your defences as though the greatest threat you encounter was another human being. And I suppose it is in the city. But the immune system has been with us from the beginning, it goes with the earthy life where the main focus of attention is how not to get eaten by a bear. People from the countryside have a different type of wits about them you could say that they have immunity instead of cunning. Like I say it's not other human beings you're primed to defend yourself from traditionally, it's the bear.

I ate an Ikea veggie hotdog once and then redecorated my bathroom sausage pink and bile green.
I can't complain given an inspired-by-the-60's Ikea bathroom makeover for 60p is much cheaper than any Habitat design.
'Spect you're right though, I puked up the Quorn because nobody loves me and I wear a hazmat suit to bed.
Nothing to do with Ikea sneaking ingredients into their food that are made by a paint manufacturer.
What kids from the urban sterile need is 6 months on a plantation to build immunity/character. Not quite the same, but a bit the same, as kids from Chernobyl how a few short weeks breathing the same British air that I have always known will extend their lives for years.

I grew up in a million population city. And two of my children as well. Basically everyone I knew back then didn't have and still do not have problems with immune system and allergies. . As I said earlier I visited a doctor only two times in 22 years of living in Canada, the same my children (I am not talking about dentists) And I still think it is a medicine and feeding babies with a poison which makes people weak.

I watched an episode of "the worlds worst job" of a guy working on a huge pig farm. When I watched him pull a paint scraper out of the slop they fed the pigs I couldn't eat hot dogs for a year.

It occurred to me that allergy shaming and suggesting the root cause is psychological is tantamount to medical gaslighting.
It likely serves industry which pollutes, pharmaceutical companies who churn out questionable medications and governments who benefit from ignoring catastrophic damage in favour of profit.
So long story short we don't know we are born. Money grows on trees and when you're born out of one womb you land straight into another(at least in this country, at least until recently).
