Check the country list on this link and find how your country is doing when it comes to this serious problem.

What causes and why? Most importantly what do you suggest to fix ut?

I was appalled to discover that even Switzerland which is one of the richest country in the world isn't free of this concern.

When G-d gave the land of Milk and Honey to the children of Israel, H- said one very important and memorable thing: "Take care of the poor, for they shall not perish from your midst." (Paraphrased) That is a very poignant statement. If G-d, who was directly caring for Israel at that time, said the poor would not cease from being in their midst, what chance does the rest of world have?

Secondly, since we have so many millionaires and billionaires in the world, and taxes, which takes trillions. How does anybody survive? It is, to me, a miracle that most of us seem to do rather well. It never, ever matters how much money you make. Because, the rich just raise the prices to keep on top at all times. There used to be the concept of "fair-price". Now it is "market-price", and fairness has gone out the window.

I'm one of the few who still believe in fair-pricing, though I very, very rarely ever see it, anymore.

Shalom,
Iyyov

War most often and in addition to that an attitude that then says pull yourself up by your bootstraps. It's not like the old days where you could walk onto a farm and find work, these days there is a great gap between rock bottom and the bottom rung of functioning society. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and jump 50 feet into the air. And also the police will harass you and if you do anything wrong the punishment will be worse because you're homeless.

Personally I'd like to take from Norway the idea of roof over your head first, kick the drugs later. You're not going to get anywhere by being homeless.

And put it with the old workhouse. An access to casual labour that goes beyond selling the big issue and into a Britain that assembles it's own toasters.

And last of all it would have to be a speakeasy. Political correctness and sounding like a posh spaz are the last things those who know what really hard is care about, and they're the last to be offended by being misgendered.

I think God also said if you don't work you don't eat.
I'm not saying everyone who is homeless is lazy and won't work - I understand that there are many different circumstances involved. We are also told to look after the widows and orphans....so it certainly involves many throughout the community to be supportive.

I wonder what is the reason someone is homeless. I know there are neighbors and friends and relatives of husband who would take me in if a disaster hit me. What problems do these people have that NO ONE will give them a sofa or floor to sleep on?dunno
Homeless is these cases are issues the person has. Like drugs, booze, criminal inclinations...user lazy mentality. Despite a desire to help by charities or government, they refuse help. Mental issues drive them onto the street or into forests. Pushing it becomes jailing them. Even in institutions because they cant be protected from themselves any other way.
What stinks is when a family ends up living in their car. Single or couple, they work. They just cant afford first months, last months and security deposits. The situation is made worse by flippers and land barons who make sure to claim any low cost housing.
Talk is cheap...city to build low income housing. Oh, sorry..you make a buck over our limits. Sorry, one bedroom only. Instead of low income apartments, they should return to boarding houses that are suitable for a family. Or dorms for singles.

If my mother never sent me a plane ticket to come home about 17 or so years ago when I was in Ontario, I would have end up homeless. Had a depressed spell, couldn't manage the day to day shit and lost everything. I am fortunate that I have a place to live in the fact my mother don't mind me here and she owns the house. I feel bad for those who find themselves in a situation where they don't have a place to go or they have to leave home because of a bad situation. Countries like America and Canada having homeless people is shocking. I know some do resist help and prefer to live like they do (they usually have mental illness) but most people would prefer a safe bedroom over sleeping on a sidewalk.

People lost their job and businesses were closed when Covid-19 hit us. In April 2021, NATO Foreign and Defence ministers decided to withdraw all Allied troops from Afghanistan. That made for an influx of our military to come home to jobs that were no longer there. Where did they sleep? How did they eat? Where did they get medical care when hospitals were full to the core with Covid-19 patients? They became homeless along with people who once had a factory job, a job in a bakery making delicious treats, a job making furniture, etc. It all went down the tubes when a virus killed many and derailed many who wanted to work. Being homeless is sometimes a choice if you have hope that the day will come when somebody will just give you a chance to make minimum wage.

"In April 2020, the Census Bureau began the Household Pulse Survey to collect nearly real-time data on how families were faring during this unprecedented crisis. At the end of 2021, the Census Bureau had released data from 39 Pulse surveys on household well-being. CBPP and others used this data to assess hardship and the impact of relief measures.

With the end of bi-weekly Pulse data releases in October 2021, this tracker will no longer be updated. The Census Bureau will continue to release Household Pulse data on a monthly basis, and CBPP will continue to analyze and write about the effects of pandemic-relief measures, including the important role of government policies in reducing hardship and poverty.

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting economic fallout caused significant hardship. In the early months of the crisis, tens of millions of people lost their jobs. While employment began to rebound within a few months, unemployment remained high throughout 2020. Improving employment and substantial relief measures helped reduce the very high levels of hardship seen in the summer of 2020. Nonetheless, considerable unmet need remained near the end of 2021, with 20 million households reporting having too little to eat in the past seven days and 10 million households behind on rent. In early 2022, some 3 million fewer people are employed than before the pandemic, though steady progress has been made, including in recent months.

Hardship in 2020 and 2021 would have been far worse without extraordinary steps taken by the federal government, states, and localities to respond to the pandemic and its economic fallout. Key hardship indicators showed strong improvement during early 2021, aided by job growth and government benefits. Hardship rates fell especially fast after the enactment of the American Rescue Plan Act on March 11, 2021, which included $1,400 payments for most Americans as well as other assistance to struggling households. (See Figure 1.) Food hardship among adults with children also fell after the federal government began issuing monthly payments of the expanded Child Tax Credit on July 15, 2021, along with improvements in food assistance.

Still, according to the Pulse survey, in October 2021, nearly 20 million adults lived in households that did not get enough to eat, 12 million adult renters were behind on rent, and some of the progress from late March appeared to have stalled as other troubles continued to affect the economy, including expiring unemployment benefits and supply chain problems that contributed to rising prices for many goods."

I have been following Mark Laita's YouTube channel "Soft white underbelly" for some years now.
His interviews are mostly with people who live in one of the most famous homeless spots in Los Angeles.
Soft white underbelly comes from Churchill, when he was advising USA where is the weakest spot of Europe to attack and get faster to Hitler, he called Italy Soft white underbelly...
No coincidence he calls the homeless people that...
The weakest part of the society which is easiest to manipulate and hold in place.
The broken families and lack of education that produce these people...
It is a complex problem and it grows fast...
And there must be an obvious reason why homelessness is something politicians are ok with...

And make a change to anything you instantly create winners and losers and an industrial revolution is a vanishingly small number of winners in a sea of chaos. It takes about fifty years for people to grow up with and know what they're doing with any of these changes and until that time most people are worse off in an industrial revolution. Jostling for place at an ever-shrinking table until the old men are ejected from the establishment.

Make the homeless hostels safe, that would go a long way. It would mean banning the thieves and troublemakers from them, regardless of the weather.

More than anything else a bright and happy future ahead rests upon one thing - roll over Beethoven. Not that there was anything wrong with Beethoven or Chuck Berry

Because spite is a large part of it. We often think that helping someone else comes at the expense of helping themselves but this is not true when you're sleeping in the car and looking for somewhere to have a bath.

And we must actually view losers with sympathy when becoming homeless depends on China's covid zero strategy. Just as an example. Your fate decided by people you've never even met, some breeze across the world brings the house down.

Long story short globalization is as productive as it is precarious. You could easily accustom to easy living and easy money only for it to fall down the shitpan in 5 minutes. And we can breed 8 billion off the back of easy living only for that easy living to disappear leaving with 8 billion that could not possibly be provided for. That's what made the 1930s so bad. To be hit by famine when all you'd ever known was a feast. But this isn't usual. In nature you're supposed to have a bit of feast and a bit of famine every year and not have everything good happen to some people and everything bad happen to others depending on when and where you were born.

Try to come up with a positive and I'd say that at least we are not alone. This isn't 1996 when being homeless said more about you than the world. Don't torture yourself with 1996, things are getting a bit real now.

Homelessness is a family problem. First of all.
Most homeless people come from toxic family environment.
Abuse of any kind is always involved, and I say always...
The people who are supposed to raise kids are the emotional killers of those same kids.
Dead before life even starts.
Then come those who had a mental breakdown due to family matters, leading to drinking and drug abuse, job loss...
In short family affairs are the main reason for homelessness...
Which begs the question...why are so many a low quality people? Mildly put...
If we live in a highly technological and easier in general times...
