ChesneyChrist: War most often and in addition to that an attitude that then says pull yourself up by your bootstraps. It's not like the old days where you could walk onto a farm and find work, these days there is a great gap between rock bottom and the bottom rung of functioning society. Pull yourself up by the bootstraps and jump 50 feet into the air. And also the police will harass you and if you do anything wrong the punishment will be worse because you're homeless.
I say poverty is a given verdict of nature Obs. A test to make human struggle worth noting for but sometimes it's a useless battle because courage wear people down when there's no opportunity to change that verdict

Iyyov: When G-d gave the land of Milk and Honey to the children of Israel, H- said one very important and memorable thing: "Take care of the poor, for they shall not perish from your midst." (Paraphrased) That is a very poignant statement. If G-d, who was directly caring for Israel at that time, said the poor would not cease from being in their midst, what chance does the rest of world have?

Secondly, since we have so many millionaires and billionaires in the world, and taxes, which takes trillions. How does anybody survive? It is, to me, a miracle that most of us seem to do rather well. It never, ever matters how much money you make. Because, the rich just raise the prices to keep on top at all times. There used to be the concept of "fair-price". Now it is "market-price", and fairness has gone out the window.

I'm one of the few who still believe in fair-pricing, though I very, very rarely ever see it, anymore.

Shalom,
Iyyov
Actually, it is surprising how frustrated people are with these stupid inflated prices everywhere. Couches being thrown together and not lasting. Makes an average person take a second look. Surviving is not easy sometimes.

Thought I would ask a guy who had his sign up what he needed. Was surprised when he wanted money as asked for hand sanitary wipes and food. We have a Food Bank, Blessing Boxes, meals served every day here, etc. The thing that gets me is food stamps are available when someone is waiting for a Social Security check. I am not against them asking but what he asked for seemed a little sketchy.

Lots of big corporations are avoiding taxes and that needs to stop

Ten_of_cupss: Are you saying all your troops were homeless before they took the job. They have no homes to return to?
My guess is that being a paid soldier was the only option for a job they had.
They could go for different qualification. They were fighting away from home, they should have saved most of their money.
Covid hit the whole world and it didn't make such a big impact on homelessness as far as I'm informed.
This problem is decades old.
The cause is hard to fight because we talk human material that is in majority of cases impossible to change.
It's not an insult, its a fact.
The cases where one is given a chance and doesn't waste it are not many, that's why you show them on TV... Rarety at its best.
Reality isn't fair we don't need to preted it should be.
Poverty is a very unjust verdict in life. sad flower

Selenite: I agree that homelessness is linked to family matters.

Also in countries where the children are not expected to 'fly the nest' the second they hit 18 and where living at one's parents if one is single is not looked down upon, there is less homelessness.

Of course there are also situations where in many countries they have closed down mental health centres and people are not coping leading to breakdown of the family due to lack of support and resources to manage and cope when a family member has a mental illness that affects the whole family.
That's exactly the case here in the US. Mental issues are the roots of the problem and lack of facility to house them. sad flower
