In the uk when the temperature rises above a certain point for three days in a row it's officially labeled a heat wave. Anything over 20C and I want to be by the sea or maybe in it. Today marks the third day of high temps, so it's officially a heatwave. With a forecast of even higher temperatures this week and into next week I have no option but to take myself to my favourite campsite by an eoght mile long beach in beaitiful Snowdonia; North Wales.

What do you do when the heat is on?
Well , some of us have no choice but to work . The only option is to stay away from the sun & keep yourself hydrated.
When I lived in Dubai, quite often I was walking to the shops or the office instead of using transport. I was doing it to get used to the heat and make it easier to be active in the difficult climate. It worked well. Now anything below 35-38C is fine...

It's rare for me to seek out the shade, but even here in the uk, as you know, it can get uncomfortably hot, especially in the towns and cities. That's why I like to head off to the coast, it's always a bit cooler by the sea or ocean....and a lot cooler in it....

I remember flying back from Dubai when an air hostess said to me, you are so lucky living in Manchester, I just can't take the heat in Dubai these days, and she was born there. I think a winter or two in Manchester might change her thinking on that one...

The thing i dislike most about high ambient temperatures is when I rode a motorcycle and I had to stop for traffic or traffic controls. The absorbed heat on most road surfaces radiates back intensely on me when I was not moving and I had to suck in all the nasty emissions from vehicles idling in front of me. ... i eventually avoided riding a motorcycle in town if the air temperature was above 75 F.
We've been having temperatures above 30 C since June here in the south of Spain. I wear a hat if I have to go anywhere without shade between the hours of 2ish and 6ish pm. My car has AC but my house doesn't. It's a really old house with 1m thick stone walls so the 2 rooms downstairs are about 10 C cooler than outside which is great in high temperatures. In the winter the temperature doesn't go below 16 C even without heating. But in Spring it's warmer outside than in my house The back of my house opens up to the valley and mountains in the distance either side of Malaga. It's like a 'corridor' that brings the sea breeze all the way to my terrace every evening Generally, I much prefer heat to cold and so I feel quite comfortable even while people are breathless from the heat ...

Popping to the coast for a day trip can be a long & tiresome experience in the heat, not to mention uncomfortable. If you’re luck enough to predict the week of summer we let in England & plan a week or so stay , then that’s a different story .

Does your basement double up as a dungeon in the winter months ?

That's why I use my ebike, almost all off road also. Last week I took the train with my bike to very close to the coast and cycled all the way back, 36 miles, 57km, entirely off road. It was quite a hot day but it felt really comfortable on the ebike, just that small amount of assistance makes all the difference.

I'm hoping to get a couple of weeks out there Nearest beach to me is less than 50 miles away, perfectly do-able for a day out..

20C and i pull out the sweater, that's cold. As it's about 8C where I am at the moment i'm quite envious.

Personally, I’d rather go abroad. It’s often the case that a week or 2 holiday abroad is often cheaper. A friend of mine flew to the south of France for under a fiver, which is less than a fair on the tube .

I remember when my aunt came to visit from Adelaide in 1975. She arrived at the end of May to quite warm weather but she insisted on wearing a thick sweater. But she really was not prepared for what happened just a few days later, neither were we for that matter. June 2nd 1975, massive snow storm hits northern England, cricket matches cancelled due to pitches being under 4" of snow. She went back home soon afterwards.

Snow storm to start the summer. Would be quite a shock.Although having seen a little of Wimbledon in the last few days I think i'd rather be there than here at the moment. It looked delightful.

My basement is only 'basement' round the front of the house. Round the back it's ground level and leads onto my terraced garden facing south ... not terribly dungeon like!
The part that is below ground though has a ceiling that dates from the 1600 s that part is a bit dongeon like... Why? Do you need to rent somewhere for your extra-curricular activities?

Dingle, County Kerry is a place I love, the cool breeze coming from Dingle bay and a nice cold beer works for me every time, but that could be anytime
