I have an Indian friend who wouldn't marry her Christian Australian boyfriend if he didn't convert to Islam. Let's say she wasn't a virgin and was drinking alcohol regularly. He did...and I know he didn't care what faith she was or pretended she cared about. I have many friends in Bulgaria who are married to people of different faith and nobody is asking or demanding the other to change faith. It is 21 century and some traditions should stay where they belong...in the past...
I suppose you know this better than me don't you DL? So is this rethorical or whatnot?
Here is my guss on the matter (why am I talking, must be bored..)
A muslim woman CAN NOT marry a nonmuslim; he has to convert. However a muslim MAN can marry who he wishes. Apart from that, no coversion that I know of, but some marry buddhist without being one, suppose it's as a gesture to the culture

In Spain, where the catholic religion has been so important for so many years, women who marry a non catholic person can only marry in a catholic church if the husband promises to bring their children up in the catholic religion. However, in spite of the religious and apparently macho culture of Spain, women never ever give up their surnames when they marry. The possibility does not officially exist. It's impossible to change your surname once you are born ....

Was the same on Iceland a thousand years ago. Thorgerd Egilsdottir being one, married to Olav På son of Melkorka former princess of Ireland. She remained Thorgerd Egilsdottir til her retirement.
