Not strictly speaking true. We are not totally self sufficient as this data explains.

High here too and we're an exporter.
It's cos we gave away our self governing to a common Euro market or something.

It's the miracle of global capitalism to buy the things you really need from the people who don't really like you. Nothing could go wrong here, we had an agreement.

We are going to have to go down the road of depending on ourselves. Yes it costs more to develop the north sea but not if we fall out with the Russians. It's easier to buy where it's easier when buying where it's cheapest turns out to be so costly.

We have to go down the road of the more expensive but altogether lower risk national capitalism. Like after world war two. Pay more for something that has a lot less to go wrong. We can't trust global capitalism unless we have Britain ruling the waves or some sort of world government. Which contrary to the wet dreams of conspiracy theorists we do not have, we absolutely do not have this level of cooperation in the world. We need a capitalism that is at most regional.

It's just the same in Spain regarding Electric and Water, they have a standing charge whether you've used any or not. Not sure about Gas as I didn't have Gas and most people used Gas bottles for their supply. I could be wrong though....

A bit like the standing water charge that we pay but some parts of the Uk are now on a "Hose Pipe" ban rolling on the floor laughing I'm up North so it doesn't effect us "yet" I'm on a water meter but some are still on a "yearly" charge and can't use their hose pipeslaugh All the reservoirs are dried up, well they wouldn't be if all the leaks in the pipes were fixed instead of leaving them so all the water just drains away into the soil/dirt. We complain of all the floods in Winter and then again when we have a few weeks of hot weather in the Summer. You never hear of Spain having hose pipe bans and they have months of hot dry weather grin
