on a tad serious note—-I absolutely refuse to be miserable. I really believe that being stressed, unhappy, miserable, et al, are CHOICES. Yes, sometimes Life is very difficult; it is for everyone…but many people learn to manage all of these events and disappointments.

Being stressed, unhappy, miserable are states of mind. It would need someone with incredible levels of mind control to choose not to suffer these states of mind come what may. It is possible, there are people who can achieve this, but they are few and far between..

Maybe if your idea of stress is your neighbour's larger swimming pool or more attractive wife. If envy was your main problem in life.
Yet I don't think triumph of the will is the answer for a Jew in Germany or having to choose which of your children gets to eat and which you have to bury.
I think happiness is a choice so long as the causes of unhappiness are not present. You have to be lucky and then not feel bad about a neighbour who has been even more lucky. Unlucky won't have misery created by envy - unlucky feels grateful not to be dead - but it will have troubles that the fortunate ones cannot imagine.
I have my grumpy moments. Annoying client is the worst I can get grumpy about, changing their appointment three times in half an hour and then call in the last moment to say they want the original time or show up at the original time demanding it was never changed. Nothing worse than positivity at any cost. But I must admit I have refused service to few and stick to my decision for further appointments. It was that bad.
