How does one define this "freedom of speech"

'Freedom of speech is the right to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, by any means. Does this then give others the right to cause insult and hurt to others with our free speech.

As decent human beings we never have to accept what others say without question and are entitled to cast an opinion ,yet many times we are castigated for daring to challenge someone .There is much controversy and hate in our World today whether it be political ,religious, colour, creed or even jealousy, which sadly continues to divide and separate us from others.

You don’t have to accept or even approve of all of the other person’s attitudes or behaviours .The most important skill in communication is the ability to listen to others. Rather than doing all the talking, take the time to stop and hear what others have to say. Refrain from interrupting or talking over other people. Sadly we forget the "rules of engagement" for want of better words as can be seen frequently on the Forums and blogs.

Is conversation good for the soul or can it be soul destroying?

Well,
it looks like it is very hard for some to let go and accept that others have their own right to have a different opinion.
Freedom of speech is a selective matter and can never be rightfully defined... dunno

Which is the whole point of the thread Cups .We may not agree with much that is taking place in today's World but surely our opinion matters and we are entitled to see things from a different angle.

The put down's and innuendos in some cases are totally unnecessary and unwarranted. Insults to many nations because of that country's political beliefs is pointless .Why insult a whole nation. Just saying

There's freedom of speech and then there's shoving your opinions down someone's throat and cancelling them if they disagree.... All for freedom of speech but there are some things better left unsaid

Which happens a lot to be honest and some of it very graphic as has been seen by all the photos posted of late.

Can we truly comment on something we are ,or have not been personally involved in, and are we never to move forward from past aggressions.

Think on this ,

“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” — Armstrong as he stepped onto the moon.

Seems to me mankind has taken one giant leap backwards of late. Just my opinion of course.

In today's world, "freedom of speech" and "I have a right to express my opinion" have precluded tact and common sense.

It's classed as a "breach of the peace" Emmy and an actual offence but not criminal . That's the difference.

As you say when people are paying respects and in mourning whether you agree with it or not people should try and have more consideration for others.handshake

UPDATE: UK police confirmed at least 4 people arrested for protesting the monarchy and King Charles:

?? 1 man in Oxford who shouted: "Who elected him?"
?? 3 in Edinburgh, including a 74-year-old, a woman holding a sign and a man who called Prince Andrew "a sick old man." Also in Wales I believe..

Because it's dumb to be offended by someone who insults your nation particularly when they're right. You or I don't have to be stereotypically English because we are from England particularly when being English is itself about individuality. You can burn as many British flags as you like so long as you've paid for them, so long as you have paid for them these are not British flags you are burning your own flag.

Freedom of any speech or action comes with consequence...I think people forget that 'tiny' matter when they are busy getting ready for their soap box moment.

Hmmm, generation Z protesting something they hardly understand...
I do not tolerate these kind of protest for the sake of being an opposition.
Having in mind that usually the loudest ones are those who have no idea what they are against.
I'd rather see them protest the political course of the government than an institution which is bringing quite a lot of balance and even bread on the table.

I agree with you.
When it comes to internet we can expect any kind of weirdness to say the least.
But when protests are taken on the streets and properties are being destroyed we need to put some limit of understanding.
We have witnessed that with BLM for example (where many of the most fierce are white).
Insulting a whole country or a whole race is a creation of a very limited mind.
