We live under a constant shelling by different data about everything. It started shily, first with newspapers, continued with radio and then television. Though, you needed to be literate or own a radio or TV. But eventually, the information flow gained its strength and now it’s constant, persistent, powerful, omnipresent current. Impossible to avoid, so we are to manage it somehow.
Is it important for you to keep yourself “informationally clean”? How do you know what’s true? How do you separate wheat from chaff?

Or you don’t?
By "everything" do you mean info from sources such as religion, political, environmental, medical. I used to trust the EPA until my own job there became political and one of the agencies priorities became mitigating light pollution. Now, today I mostly trust weather forecasting sources and Doctor Google.

galrads: I am not sure what you are asking me or why. In my post I was trying to gain a little more info from you to understand how you view and discern truth.

I try to look at information like a juror would, weighing "preponderance of the evidence".
Just one example...I had heard seed oils are dangerous, causing inflammatory responses in the body (I was planning to use flax seed oil). Currently quite a bit of controversy about this all over the internet. Even very learned doctors, nutritionists and other health experts now agree seed oils should be used. However digging deeper, study after study shows that this is Not true.
Then you have to look at "who" is funding these reports and studies... "reasonable doubt". Sometimes it's best to reserve judgment until more information is acquired.

I'm not sure to be honest. But I think we need to take tips from survivors of the gulag, we don't know whether we're coming or going or what's true anymore, all we know is that those who present themselves as good authority are the greatest criminals of them all.

But that takes time, quite a lot, doesn't it? And then you have to sift through all that long "scientific" words and then, as a reward, it turns out to be inconclusive. Isn't it simpler to go after a catchy slogan one finds on Facebook, especially if it's written in large letters?

So what GULAG survivors are your personal favourite coaches in terms of keeping information hygiene? Shalamov? Razgon? Zhzhenov? Lihachev? Someone else?

It does take time I admit.. On very important matters I do research, kinda fun, like detective work sometimes. I never do Facebook or any kind of social media. Catchy slogans go in and out of my ears/eyes

You are quite a cliff in our times full of "influencers" of all possible kinds. How do you manage? Doesn't it feel lonely at times? Or is there a club for intractable minds? I'd like to become a member :)
