If you are looking at the feeling instead of looking at the cause of the feeling, it is self-awareness/introspection, it will lead you towards self-realization.
Looking at the feelings is called introvert and looking at the causes of the feelings is called extrovert.
In both cases you will feel the feeling but whether you look at the feeling or look at the causes of the feeling, depends on you.
The essence of entire spirituality/religiosity/theism/atheism is how to become an introvert.
