Ear Worms ( Archived) (16)

Ear Worms are songs stuck in your head, even at night when you're trying to get to sleep this damn song keeps playing. Most times they are songs you can't stand under normal conditions and were never a favorite of yours. This one was in my head last night.

Yes, it's really annoying when you really don't like the song. This reminds me of part of the acclaimed film, Touching the Void. Two mountaineers successfully climbed a previously unclimbed mountain in the Andes when disaster struck on the way down. In appalling conditions Joe Simpson, after badly breaking a leg in a fall was being lowered down by his climbing partner, Simon Yates when they both became stuck.. Simon had lowered Joe over a precipice but the rope was not long enough and despite a three-hour struggle in sub zero temperatures and a howling gale, Simon had no choice other than to cut the rope. Joe fell over a hundred feet and into a deep crevasse. Simon searched for him the next day but found no sign, presumed him to be dead, and reluctantly.set off down the mountain to base camp.
But, Joe had miraculously survived. Giving himself almost no chance of getting down the mountain, his leg was even more badly smashed after the second fall, he spent three days trying to crawl over the treacherous terrain back to safety.
It was at some point when a song that he particularly disliked entered his brain and refused to go away for many hours. The song? Brown Girl in the Ring by Boney M.

He recalled thinking to himself in a delirious state...."Bloody hell, I'm going to die to Boney M."....

This is stuck in my head right now. The Everly Brothers. WOW 65 years ago seems like it was yesterday.
