He was old when they first appeared around 1976.I remember when I first heard then on John Peel. He said "I've got a demo disc here from a new band. They're called The Stranglers and the song believe it or not is titled Get a Grip on Yourself. I think they may turn out to be a bit special.

I haven't heard that for a while.
I'm completely musically ignorant and have considerably less hearing than the last time I listened. Am I right in thinking that they're kinda inbetween the trippy hippy sort of stuff and punk?

Whenever I went to a Stranglers concert (the last time was about 4 years ago) the Stranglers never let me down.

Back in those days I would judge a band not on their records but on their live performances. I would more often than not see the band live before I bought their records. The Stranglers were a fantastic live band.
